rolf wroteHere is a little fantasy of mine... buy two SSD drives (fastest I can get) and set them up as RAID0 :-) I don't know if the bus can handle such speeds, though. If not that'd probably be a waste.
But since SSD seem to be so expensive, maybe this money is better spent on a bigger LCD (23" is not that big, really) for example. Or a sound system to go with it, or just spare it for any future technology that will be worth buying (like kinect, 3D headset, or something...).
Your graphic card also seems to be quite expensive. Maybe a couple of cheaper models set up in parallel would be better? It depends how much of a gamer you are in the end. Also make sure the cooling on that thing is not too noisy Another concern would be getting the most up-to-date board you can get so that you can do upgrades in the future. Kudos for getting a good case, I hope it's worth the money (it is a bit expensive for a case, but worth it if it's really well built and designed).
BTW I have a friend who specializes in getting and assembling high-end hardware. Also kind of off topic, but you can get the macbook air for maybe around $1800. It's very light. It's not very powerful but the SSD drive means apps launch real fast. Sorry for being off topic it's just one of these things I'd consider buying if I had money to invest on computers.
And the beer offer sounds tempting BTW :)
All perfectly reasonable points. Here's my reply:
1- I already the set the budget for a reason. I could go higher but it's really no point, if you consider the level of quality and power I'm getting from the current configuration. 1 SSD should be more than enough to set as primary and use to boot the system and heavy application/games.
2- concerning the monitor, I really don't need larger than 23". I'm rather tight on space and the reason I chose the samsung is because of it's slim design. Eventually I'll probably add another two monitors of the same kind and get a nice gaming display set (and just a nice overall display)
3- The graphics card is something not to be taken lightly especially since this computer is first and foremost a gaming rig. Yes I could go for SLI on previous model, but for now I don't expect to really needing quite that much raw power.
4- finally, I'm honestly not looking for a laptop, else I would've gotten a MacBook Pro. I need a stationary and powerful system that I could use for everything and when time comes not to say "fuck, I'll have to get a new one because this laptop is ot powerful enough". I want to be able to play around with my rig and enjoy it just like everyone else does.
