Anyone on ubuntu here? Or other linux distros?

I've been using 10.11 NRE with unity for a while now, not sure how unity will be on a full desktop though...
Downloading.

I really wanted to try the new gnome though :-(

Guess I'll leave that for the weekend.
Unity SUCKS big time. I try it on netbook edition, and seems i will switch off from ubuntu, if this shit(Unity) will not work properly.
I stopped using Ubuntu. I don't like it, I don't like where it's headed, I don't like its stupid Software Center, I don't like everything it runs under the hood shielded from user, I don't like the focus on Social Media, I just ... don't like it.

Which features do you prefer ? And what do you expect from your OS ?

Well you can say it's turning into a mac-like but open source OS.. I don't like it either, and the social networking focus too... but then again, that just our tastes. I like debian based linuxes so I think I'm jumping to another flavor finally. unity is def not my style... oh and gnome 3 looks sick :D!
I haven't heard favorable GNOME 3 reviews yet, maybe things will get better with time.

Ubuntu has always aimed at being the most easy to use linux distro, thats why power users get annoyed when they push towards that goal. I've learnt to accept it and stick to the terminal anyway.

I've been using the Ubuntu Netbook Remix [after Mandrake/Mandriva and Wolvix] and I'm tempted to switch on my desktop too: mainly for the fast development/release cycle [new version every April and November - new LTS every 3 years] and the fact that since so many people use it, its really easy to google and find answers to basic issues.

I'm still conflicted on Unity. KDE4 is what made me switch to GNOME in the first place. GNOME 3 seems to have lots of complaints against it. And Unity just might not be mature enough yet. meh.
Yuck
I see they still haven't fixed the things I don't like about it... still same plasticky icons... same java-ish window backgrounds, same problems, glitches, and overall unpolished and cheap looks (I'm just trying to put words on it... but I think the first word of my post is the most expressive here)
Seriously it's supposed to be the #1 Linux distro... supposedly lots of work done on it... well how about they work on the core issues and get these right, before adding useless stuff.

I look for something minimalistic where I know what's installed and what is running. From there on, you can easily mould a system to suit your needs.

My current favorite: Crunchbang. Also know as #! Been using it exclusively for alomst 3 months now. Couldn't be happier.

If anyone's interested I could give a detailed review.

That's rather expected. The linux community is weak in UX and hence their UI reflects upon that. Nevertheless, they are moving forward, just not fast enough.

Arch is calling.

Arch is awesome. It's just not ... Debian. (I'm a deb fan, sue me :P)

Anyway, back to topic, has anyone tried Natty yet? What are your first impressions?
I intend to give Natty a try eventually. I don't know if the change to Unity is a bad thing, since it's only been recently introduced and you require a long period of use before you can get an actual measure of UI usability.

I am kind of curious as to why they didn't go with GNOME 3. As I recall, Canonical does a lot UI testing with actual users, so I'd like to know what they found that made Unity a better choice for them.

Also note that 11.04 includes the old GNOME 2 so if you don't like Unity you can just switch back. That's why I love Linux, you're allowed to change your mind.

If anyone's running 11.04 I'd love to read your review of it.

@rahmu: Yes! I've been curious about Crunchbang so a review would be appreciated.
Just tried to download and install the 11.04 version using WUBI. It gave me an error at 87% !
Had the same issue with 10.10 and gave up on installing it after few attempts.
Got it, just need to get a cd to burn it. Live through virtualbox is just F'ing slow.

Get ArchLinux. It's a binary distribution but very easy to customize and build your own packages.
@hussam, HERESY! he only uses Debian based distributions :P. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

hehe :D
I've been using ArchLinux since 2006 and I couldn't be happier :)
Alright, got it installed. If there's anything you guys want me to test, just reply back.

First impression, Unity in 11.04 is loads (LOADS!) better than its previous edition. It's way faster.

It does give a sort of uniqueness to the operating system but it could use some improvements.

Update #1 : I underestimated Unity, the keyboard shortcut it provides are insane.

Update #2 : I want to emphasize even more on the shortcuts, the defaults are competitive with windows shortcuts. for those of you that know me, this is saying alot.
