2 new Android monsters coming to Lebanon
Ok I have the SE Arc already but it's interesting to see what will win this battle in Lebanon:
Galaxy S2 from Samsung or HTC Sensation?
Here are the infos:
SGS2:
Expecting release date worldwide between 27th April and 9th May, in Lebanon it should be there between 3rd and 10th May.
Main advantages over Sensation: Super Amoled Plus screen and unlockable bootloader (root, custom roms,mods...)
Main negatives: Price(specially if very popular) and all plastic body
HTC Sensation:
Expecting release date at Verizon for mid-May and worldwide release 2 weeks later, it should be in Lebanon by the beginning of June.
Main advantages over SGS2: Higher resolution with 540x960 instead of 480x800 which is important on a 4.3'' screen, SENSE 3.0 aka the best UI for Android, better overall build quality.
Main negatives: Price, Root will be difficult because of the supposed locked bootloader.
If you ask me I would pickup the Sensation anyday because of high res and Sense 3.0 BUT not before it gets root...

I don't get why htc phones are so popular ... Right now I'm experimenting with the galaxy s and the htc desire hd and eventhough specs wise htc is better I just hate the bulkiness of the htc and the material used. All plasti is not really a con ...And since performance is almost the same on the two I'd much rather own a galaxy s. I don't know about the new models but I don't expect much to change. I sticking with my iPhone 4 for now and the only handsets that could replace it are the nexus s or the s2.

i have the galaxy s now for more then 8 months and its great, the colors on screen is great but resolution wise not so good thanks pen-tile matrix this was addressed and solved in the new SAMOLD+. i am thinking to switch to HTC sensation as it looks great, and the sense 3.0 looks amazing!

"Root will be difficult because of the supposed locked bootloader."
what's that mean ? why do we need to "root" things up somebody explain plz :)

"rooting" is the near-equivalent of jailbreaking for iOS devices. It is called thus because it refers to giving the user root access to Android, which means near total control over linux (base of android). This is where the beauty (that I didn't yet have the chance to experience myself) of android lies. I guess vegetaleb or other Android users can explain to us if there exists benefits other then the use of ROMs (modified, better versions of Android).
vegetaleb
Custom roms, ported roms (from other devices), custom kernels, modified and boosted camera and audio, total freedom in theming...
My ex-N1 was turn after turn a desire, desire hd,gingerbread, MIUI device!
Now they are preparing the Sense 3.2 ported rom from Sensation to DHD for exemple!!

Im not so sure you could compare rooting to jailbreaking. To start with, android is an open source OS, where iOS or mac's OS for iphones are closed sources. The difference is, with android, you could go create softwares and then download them on your phone. You could find so many websites with available apps that are not included in the android market and they work just as easy when you download them. The iOS requires a jailbreaking to allow third party apps to work on it; such as cracked apps that are made free.
When it comes to pure rooting, as Bij said, ask Vegetaleb. But I don't recommend biginners to root. I prefer if they experiance the real android life, and slowly when they get to know it better, they will incounter rooting.
I hope HTC sensation will have a key to allow rooting (like the SE) because that phone is just amazing !

I red some reviews of the SGS2, it looks very good and very fast but the main problem can be a huge problem for some people...cheap plastic!
Many users are reporting easy scratches even on the lens of the camera :/
It's rooted for a good moment now but still no custom roms.
It looks like the main XDA devs are waiting to see what the Sensation will have to offer first
AkDoV
I think you are right Vegetaleb, I think the dev team is waiting for htc sensation's release and its potential to rooting. Cross your fingers because if the pyramid is rootable, it would be by far, the best phone on the market.

I think that the Samsung Galaxy S II is really better than the HTC Sensation as you all heard 3G will be available for user this summer so the HSDPA of the Galaxy S II is 21 Mbps which is a lot faster than the 14.4 Mbps of the HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S II have HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 while the HTC Sensation have only HSDPA 900 / 2100 so if Alfa and MTC touch used 850 or 1900 Mhz bands for their 3G networks you will not be able to use 3G on your HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S II have Wifi Direct which is the new solution of file transfer that we will see in future phones (i don't know any other phone that have Wifi Direct but it's an advantage for Samsung to have it first) and speaking of 3G i forgot to mention that the video call cam in the HTC has a VGA resolution while the Samsung Galaxy S II has a 2 MP Video Call camera and if you are not interested in 3G because we didn't have it yet it's sure that you care about storage and RAM the Galaxy S II came in 2 versions a 16 GB one and a 32 GB one while the HTC is still stuck with a 1 GB storage and the Galaxy S II got 1 GB of rams while the HTC have 768 Mb of RAM and at the end i checked some sites of the UK market and an unlocked HTC Sensation costs £500 and the Samsung Galaxy S II costs £480 so maybe the Samsung Galaxy S II will be Cheaper than the HTC Sensation in Lebanon too. hope that the review was useful
vegetaleb
Dude we are not in a normal country, 3G will be max 1mb/s so don't dream any sec that you will have 20mb/s lol
monkey-d-luffy
But your forgot it's Dual Core man :/
And also Cell phone have a tendency to fall and if this happens with your S II You have no phone (:
m-sabra
i know this but i am optimist because they said that in testing they have reached a speed of about 40 MBPS so maybe and just maybe this can be true and beside 3G you can't ignore the storage difference between the Samsung Galaxy S II (16/32GB) and the HTC Sensation (1GB only)
PS: i did not mention the dual core because both phones have a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor
AkDoV
m.sabra, I am really sorry to say this, but if you are trying to compare phones due to their FAT memory, then you are really shallow. You could easily add a 32Gb SD card for the HTC and you would be good to go. Now don't get me wrong, I do look at Samsung's progress, and it is going sky high really fast, but m.sabra, you forgot the quality which Samsung uses. Have you ever held an HTC and Samsung at the same time ? Did you ever go through the custom android OS HTC releases ? Did you ever use HTC sense ? I am not going against you because after all, I might get the GSII instead of the Sentation if it's gona be much cheaper, BUT, you cannot compare two phones while talking about all the cons of one, and the pros of the other. No matter what you say, HTC is the leading Android phone developer.
Edit: I forgot to add this; you made me laugh so much, don't ever dream of more than 1 mbps for 3G in Lebanon; we don't even have fiber optic cables covering Beirut for residential internet; and up North, most people still use dial up !

my comparison was in the matter of hardware and specifications of every phones this is why i mentioned the RAM and the memory and the 3G capabilities and i did not talk about the user interface i know that the sense is better than the ToucWizz but the touchwizz of the GSII is a new version 4.0 i think so it maybe better since i didn't try it yet and yes you can boost your phone with 32 GB card but you need to buy it HTC and Samsung includes both a 8 Gb micro SD so in the HTC you have 9 GB and in worst case of GSII you have 24 GB you can't ignore the difference because new apps in android market are very big (specially games) and specially because paid apps are now available in Lebanon so this is why i did not talk about user interface because the phones are not available in Lebanon so i did not have the chance to try them hope that you get the point of my comparison and you can check hardware of two phones and if found something better in the HTC please share it with us (plz don't say something about plastic body design or style because they are just for the look)
Edit: about the 3G they said they reached high speeds in test so let's be a bit optimist and see if this is true but it will be weird that my phone internet will be better than my PC internet :P

watch this! GSII have a superior picture quality ( sharpness , black level , viewing angles) vs htc sensation , thanks to the super amoled plus screen, but i doubt that we here in lebanon gonna get the super amoled version! they will send here the S-LCD version of GSII ...
well i still prefer the sensation over GSII , htc sense vs touchwiz! it's a no brainer for sense , and the plastic on samsung make it feel really cheap
Georges
Both devices are super cool to own and use.
I personally prefer the HTC Sensation. HTC Sense is extremely useful.
HTC also provides its own widgets/apps that will help you customizing this phone.
- The clock/weather widget on the home screen is one simple example.
- Friend Stream, World Clocks, Mail, Messages and Power Dashboard widgets.
Contact matching and suggestions is extremely helpful. Same Twitter, FB, gmail and phone contacts will be merged together automatically...
etc...

SGS II and the sensation are both flagship phones, so you cant go wrong with either one. if you want a phone that looks good, and got a really nice user experience get the sensation, and if you want a phone with great picture quality and good camera get the SGS II. Both phones now got unlocked bootloader so if you know your way around, you can get custom roms and modified kernals.
As for me, i am waiting for the EVO 3D GSM version that should be out this summer :)
vegetaleb
I doubt Amhaz will not bring the Super amoled + version, perhaps the official company will bring slcd to reduce price hahaha.
But anyway I don't know why samsung phones are so late in Lebanon! The nexus S just came here 4-5 months late
