MegaCool wroteOur first priority should be proper Internet to home or work computers before implementing any sort of mobile service. Why we have always to be the odd country? I never heard of a place where 3G is the main Internet service, and regular DSL or cable is just some crappy backup for home use.

So basically are they using the whole IMEWE bandwidth for mobile Internet? Because that's just plain stupid.
Besides, what about mtc? Will 3G be exclusive to Alfa subs?
as i told above there are some places

even in germany many ppl now use somethign called "umts sticks" instead of a landline
Yeah umts ! I had one of those sticks and they sucked so hard that even now my 512K line is slightly better than this.

The main problem with those technologies is that you need to have an antenna NEARBY and even in germany the coverage is not what it should be .

Lets sum it up a bit okay.

1. 3g is not 21 mbps unless the antennas get enough bandwidth and have the necessary equipent to send such a HSDPA signal.

2.The standard 3G 1.0 speed is between 1.3 and 4.6 mbps IF you are very close to the antenna.

3.We could use the Cpe units we get with wise ,mobi etc. because they are suited for HSUPA not only HSDPA .

4.Rural areas won`t get any Antennas period we all know it and nobody in Beirut cares ,it is the same with ADSL why would they change that.

5.Of course we will have qouta even today you get quoatas in Europe for 3g and its not THAT cheap.

6.Antennas lack in rural areas so some really "smart" assholes will find a way to build their own and steal bandwidth from the official ones and we all know how that ends: slow speed even if you pay a crap load of money.

7.3g is nothing more than a video call /surf the net on your way through the expensive malls and hotel areas when you visit Lebanon dear tourists tool.

8. No. 7 defines it.

9 . Ogero will spoil it somehow with their artificial limits etc . I mean what kind of a country would Lebanon be if the people would have comfort at a certain point no we need to suffer because that`s how it always needs to be in order to make money. Fair conditions whats that?

10.We all have this crap because of ONE problem there are a lot of people here that can`t accept reallity and therefore need to ruin everything only so that their vision of reallity becomes true. they simply can`t accept that they are not right.

3g is not an ogero implementation. it is a ministry + alfa [also ministry guided] implementation in response to ogero's IMEWE. they are just fighting.
i know places with good coverage and places with bad coverage... its not impossible to cover all lebanon with it.. lets see

On a better note, that implies that 3g doesn't have to necessarily to jeopardize IMEWE /DSL.

Any kind of competition (even this retarded political-laden competition) is better than a monopoly status.

It will not be exclusive to Alfa---MTC is supposed to be rolling its 3G out this summer also.

http://web-release.info/2011/03/03/major-contract-signed-by-huawei-and-mtc-to-accelerate-3g-development-in-lebanon/

Anyhow, what difference does it make. Both are essentially the same company and the choice is between 1a and 1b---how much difference will the pricing and services be between the two companies?
MegaCool wroteBesides, what about mtc? Will 3G be exclusive to Alfa subs?
I extremely doubt it. I am almost sure that both Alfa and MTC will offer 3G and any of its services at the same level and same cost (the usual duopoly)
About that with Ogero I didn`t know that it`s not coming from them...huh

Still I would really be surprised If it would work out 100%
while other country's are planing to start using the 4G tech, we are planing for the 3G.. even thou that the cost of installing 4G is so close to 3G cost... :/
longbit, that's how things work in our country, if i were you i would just be happy that we're finally getting 3G.
We are waiting an offer to install the 3g links in lebanon
we did the following tests:

3g backhaul microwave links
link speed is 380 Mbps per sec

which is superb, but when you say rain each 380 link will operate at 50 Mbps

So we can say 2 clients can work on 3g links on a rainy day with the 21 megs speed

lebanon need WIMAX for internet

3g will be online 4 months from now

Cheers.

David ... are you informed whether 3G is being set an an alternative for IMEWE / DSL ?
Nop but i'm sure 3g will handle mobile phones and video calls smoothly
(Only) as for internet and dongles ,after 300 400 subscribers, we will be praying to make a phone call .this is my theory at least

Did you guys notice that neither the minister nor MTC and ALFA mentioned anything about the pricing !!?
