babum wroteit all depends on the frequencies your phone can receive, most likely alfa transmits in a certain frequency that your sister can detect but mtc transmits on a different one undetectable by her phone.
lol both me and my sister have the same phone (nokia C5-03) the only diffrence is that mine is black hers is silver :P
what i don't get is why didn't they directly get 4G ...

Band I 2100 UMTS (2100/1900)

OR

Band IV 2100 UMTS (2100/1700)

???
4G LTE equipment is expansive now considering its still new technology. 3G technology that will be used in lebanon is HSPA+ promoted as 4G in US and Canada. also Alfa will use category 14 HSDPA capable of 21.1 mbs theoretical download speed and MTC will use category 20 HSDPA which will provide 42.2 mbs theoretical download speed. LTE which is even not real 4G is capable of 50 mbs theoretical speed, however LTE is capable of reaching close to the advertised speed unlike HSPA
guys take a look at this
Why is it that MTC's 3G technology is more advanced than Alfa's (2x more advanced)? :/
Haidcar or others:

which umts frequency banding will be in place:?:

Band I 2100 UMTS (2100/1900)

OR

Band IV 2100 UMTS (2100/1700)

thanks
How can you see the 3G network?? On iphone nothing appears
set your mobile to UMTS-only mode and wait (weak signal) :P [you may need to go outside]
so is it weak because you haven't got real access to the network and so it gives you the idea that you don't have good signal or is it really low coverage? If it is low coverage then it won't be really good for the first months at least until they finish the project :S also do you think they will drop EDGE network? given the higher bandwidth need of 3G it seems foolish to think that other technologies will remain untouched.
I just sent myself a text message on the 3.5G network!
GreenM wroteI just sent myself a text message on the 3.5G network!
that is nice, can you use data or voice as well?
Where's your location GreenM ?
AvoK95 wrotewhat i don't get is why didn't they directly get 4G ...
the reason is that 4G use CDMA bands only so there is no any single phone in Lebanon that will work with the 4G network because 3G phones (like ours) are only GSM and HSDPA capable and if you are wondering that your phone may support 4G the answer is no because it will not work if it was, because 4G phones only support CDMA bands,so if they installed 4G it will be useless because everybody wil have to sell his phone and wait till 4G phones become available.

4G doesn't uses CDMA bands. LTE 4G is an international standard for 4G around the world. its operates in its own spectrum and got its own bands. CDMA (used mostly in america and china) GSM ( most countries around the world). 4G LTE is supposed to and international standard that will unite the world in terms of mobile wireless technology.
In america Verizon launched LTE along side its CDMA network, voice will be handled over CDMA and data over LTE (LTE doesn't support VoLTE yet but the problem should be solved soon). ATT in america are launching LTE along side its GSM based HSPA+, also the same case as Verizon (voice will be over GSM and data through LTE).
even the current LTE network is not 100% 4G. a true 4G network should provide 100mbs for mobile users and 1gbs for stationary users this technology would be called LTE-Advanced
well there is no real 4G networks yet,the most close networks to 4G are the LTE and HSPA+ the CDMA working phones are advertised as 4G phones (like the 4G version of a phone usually use CDMA) and the true 4G must have the minimum requirements that you have mentioned according to IMT-Advanced, i thought Avok meant the 4G advertised phones, because real 4G networks does not exist yet.
Mhmd wroteWhere's your location GreenM ?
I'm in Tabarja.
Why am I seeing Syriatel and MTN in Tripoli on my iPhone 4!

There is no Standardization for 4G yet, most of the technologies are still being negotiated by the telecom Committees over the world. for the Guy who was saying that he found three networks: MTC, Alfa, and RL05 the third network is name of the network that we have seen an conflict between sho3bit al ma3loumet and the ministry of telecom.
I don't think they announced the 3G service because they love us, thought they'll rip our money off.
And count days until new services become available in our home country LEBANON.
P.S: Don't go happy, they did that for a certain reason, which is quiet despicable.

Thumbs up ( If there were any ).
