  • [Help] Jailbroken iPhone 3GS iOS 4.0.1 to at least 4.1

I've done progress preparing my machine and the virtual machine for iOS development. To my surprise, the XCode I could get a hand on has an iOSSDK 4.1 which can only run code on an iOS4.1 or higher. Being the newbie in jailbreaking iphones, I ask help from the overlords.
I jailbreaked my 3gs with help from unforgiven after updating it to iOS4.0.1. We also unlocked it for use with local SIMs but I can't remember if it was redsnow or something else.

Is it possible to update it to at least 4.1? Will I need to get hold of some foreign SIM (AT&T) card? Will I need to brick or make my phone an iPod in order to develop on it (if it comes down to that after all options exhausted, then let it be, I'll turn back to my good old Sony-Ericsson K800)

do you have an old or new bootrom 3gs?
I think you needed a legal SIM before as it was required by the Jailbreak process (Spirit Jailbreak).
Just cook a custom firmware with pwnagte tools and you should be fine.
dude yours is a "new" bootrom 3GS ... the unlock was redsn0w ... don't update wait till i read up on it after i come home to day .... i think it's relatively easy to jailbreak but you should not update the baseband !
wait a bit till untethered 4.3.1, stefan Esser is expected to release it.
The unlock was ultrasn0w* lol I just realized what I said .... Dude can you check your baseband version ? I think you'll have to use tiny umbrella to upgrade your os but not your baseband... If you do a regular upgrade you might lose the unlockability of your phone
someone told me about limera1n i just downloaded it and my iphone got blocked lol, i guess i have to restore it now and it's forcing me to download latest version =D carefull what you are doing
Wait for i0nic untethered jailbreak. It i expected in the next couple of days. And musclenerd is working on the unlock for latest baseband iPhone 4 only. Either way, don't forget to save your shsh blobs.

btw forget about comex userland jailbreak because Apple fixed the bugs and vulnerability Comex used to exploit, so he stopped working on it.

Limera1n is for 4.1 only, it won't work for above 4.1 firware version. Didn't you save your shsh blobls with cydia or Tiny Umbrella ?
Finally, got it to work. Upgraded all from windows using iREB, snowbreeze, and unlocked with ultrasnow. I preserved the Modem firmware which keeps me at 05.13.04 (which I was comfortable at knowing is unlockable).
It's nice to have got all of this behind my back, not really my idea of fun.
@m0ei: I just need to upgrade since I have a newer SDK (if I found an older SDK I would still have been a happy developer, though this does feel cleaner). Mac App Store none sense comes to mind :/

It's not really a joke, because Saurik (developer of Cydia ) is working on Mac Cydia. It's coming to mac in few weeks. That's what he said in his presentation at 360MacDec conference.
@m0ei, no i didnt save anything i was told to download it folow the steps :( iam gonna send my iphone to some1 now to repair it and install cydia for me, as i tried to recover it my self and the internet failed on downloading the update software and i waisted like 1 GB cz of interupts and everytime it was going back to the begining :D
and i didn't know about shsh blobls :( however i backup-ed my phone before messing but cant recover without downloading new software update

@jadz : have you ever clicked the make my life easier button in cydia ? if yes then your SHSH blobs are saved

4GB to download (iOS SDK 3.2) and am good to go.
the problem is i dont have the cydia and i was trying to install it:D
