mmk92 Hey all, I've been seeing lots of recievers at stores and at friend's places that you plug to the internet and it unlocks all scrambled channels...for free!! How does it work? should i buy the receiver?
haidcar the receiver connects to a server and download the unlock codes of the channels it doesnt take quota since the codes are very small in size, but i am not sure if these receivers still work on like OSN
maba723 I used to have it. It doesn't unlock OSN channels. But you have to know that it "expires", after a period of time it just won't work anymore so you would have to purchase another one.
xazbrat Yeah--if you want to go a similar route, find a local guy to install a dongle for you. It is basically hooked up to another dish and pointed at another satellite and gets the codes that way. My local guy will set one up for $160 including a receiver. The only costs you have after that are LL20K every six months to pay for the server. In any case, get a programmable receiver or a Linux based one. Brands include Dreambox, Starsat, and Humax among others. These can be upgraded with new software and codes or able to link to databases to uplink the data.

Maybe all that need to be done is get a firmware upgrade when it "expires"?

I know you can get a firmware for the dongle but I don't think you can for the Internet dongle because there is no usb slot to connect it to the PC
maba723 rani wrotehas anyone considered not pirating the channels and actually subscribing to OSN ? Yes, and I ditched the dongle and got the official Aljazeera sports card. Feels good actually.

Feels good actually. Same here---I paid $77 and $12 for ESPN package--comes out to less than $8 per month. OSN price's have to come down a bit in order to be competitive, but Cablevision is a great deal IMO and much better than subscribing to OSN (unless you are looking for HD programming).
xazbrat maba723 wroteWait, what ESPN package? It's an addon and gives you ESPN, ESPN America, ESPN Classic, NBA and one other channel (ART sport 7?)--It comes out to $12 to add on to the basic package, so worth it IMO.

I paid 77$ and I can watch these channels When we first got the card, they gave us the channels and +9 and +10 for an intro period. Check the menu on your receiver for the card status and you should have 2 line items. One will have an expiration date a year from when you bought it and the other may be 3 months from when you got it or so. If not, you got a sweet deal. Congrats. :)
eurybaric Guys what do u mean 77$/year for OSN??!! I was just checking out their packages on their site and the cheapest is like 24$/month !! I'm sure I'm missing something here lol, any help? ((:

WizaRd Reviving an old topic. So, tomorrow my internet receiver 'expires'. I called the guy who sold it and he said the company who makes these (Syrians, for all I know) stopped giving away that black dongle few months ago and I'll have to buy another receiver if I want to enjoy watching Al Jazeera & co. The other receiver costs $120 or $180 if I want it to be HD and it will also last 1 year. I am inclined to believe this is some total BS. There must be a way to upgrade the software or patch something via the internet because I highly doubt this rebranding of an Emtech receiver needs a new dongle every year. Where to go from here? Is there some linux-based receiver in the market where I could just subscribe to some normal servers and pay them for a user/password instead of being ripped off by local dealers here? I do hope I wont have to go buy a Jazeera card every year for that but I'm ready to shell some bucks in investment regarding a long-term receiver plan. There, thanks for reading and replying if you know about the subject. My receiver is EchoSat V3000.
WizaRd Alright, let's narrow this thing a bit. Where's a good place to buy a receiver with internet decryption? HD feature would be a huge plus if it still unlocks JSC HD and Abu Dhabi sports. I'd like something that doesn't just 'expire' a year from now. Cardsharing support would be great, too. Edit: Does anyone know if CableVision/Econet provide the full list of JSC channels and AD sports? I don't want the already free-to-air channels because that'll be pathetic and useless.
