Hey guys,
Me and my friend are thinking about starting a new MMO/MMORPG game, but not sure which one to give a try. We want something that can be easily acquired, like can be bought in DVDs instead of downloaded since we cant download more than 1gig game, Lebanese quota ftw! :P
This is a list of what we got so far:
1- Guild Wars 1/2
2- Lineage II
3- Warhammer Online
4- Aion
5- Lord of the Ring Online
The one we are most tempted to get, so far, is Warhammer Online. Anyone tried it before? Any recommendations?
Now, I already play WoW, so it's not included here :P
Firas
guild wars is "ok" no monthly subscriptions too, Lineage is meh, warhammer was good now its gayhammer, Aion got wings and stuff, LoTr turned to a free MMO 2 months ago so give it a shot.
so....
1- Guild Wars 1/2 8/10
2- Lineage II 5/10
3- Warhammer Online 3/10
4- Aion 2/10
5- Lord of the Ring Online 8/10

Well in my opinion, in order for you to enjoy an mmo, you need to pick a well populated mmo.
Guild Wars 1 was good back in the days, now it's not that populated. As for Guild Wars 2, it's still kinda early to talk about it.
Lineage II, same thing as GW1
Warhammer Online had huge expectations but failed to deliver. The game had a lot of bugs and flaws.
Aion (i'm surprised Firas gave it 2, and i'm curious to know if he played it enough) is a very good mmo and its more than just wings and awesome graphics, but sadly the game is currently dying due to the bad management of NC West (the western branch of NCSoft). In Asia, the game in still going strong.
Lord of the Rings Online, i have no idea about it and never had an interest to try it.
The current mmos that are well populated are either Rift, which is kinda like WoW meets Aion. And the other mmo is Tera, which is only playable in Asia at the moment and will be released in the west later this year.
I personally, played Aion for 1 yr and 3 months and quit last month. The game entertained for quite some time but i knew it was time to move on and take a hiatus from mmos.

Most of The Available Choice are "Meh" :
-- Rift is going strong i haven't heard/read any complaints other then the talk about server queues and Trion fixed that by adding 32 servers
--TERA , Sadly Unavailable currently in the West , but it has been getting very good reviews with the only "nuances" pointed out by the players are about the players not being able to increase or decrease their character's bodies ( imagine aion ) so BlueHole replied by saying that they didn't want to because that would screw up the animations , andsince the game is skillshot based , anyone with a desire for Hardcore PvP will just decrease their size so much not to get him .
-- DC universe online , good , diferent , Godly IP ( i mean it's Superman & batman come on :P ) have been "Decent" with people complaining about some Exploits . also the game is Action based , and patches seem to be coming as promised ( content patches )
-- The List That Shall not be named ...... The F2P MMOs yeah , i wouldn't bother much , i mean other then DDO and LotRO , most F2P MMOs are Pay To Win
-- Upcoming MMOs you should keep an eye on :
...SWTOR ; WoW in Space with more Lore , deeper quests and "Plays SW music "
...GW2 If you like GW1 why not play the 2nd ?
...TERA For Obvious Reasons
....Vindictus in Europe , even though it's F2P , it's a game you'd wanna play from time to time just to kill some time ( no Date for european release due to some contract issues )

Thanks for the info guys, just like you said, warhammer is no longer populated with currently around 300,000 subscribers only down from 1.2mil.
As for Guild wars 1, it might be dying with people waiting on guild wars 2 (Barely beta).
I heard that Aion is mostly pvp game with 40 as a level cap, so not quite what I'll be going for.
So, down from what I've read.
1- Lord of the Rings online
2- Rift
3- TERA
Anymore suggestions/recommendations about these 3 or any other one?

So you think Rift is a good one to try? Awesome!
I cant wait for SWTOR, but not sure when they will release it. Same goes for Guild wars 2.
Padre
I'm waiting for The Old Republic :)

Guild wars 2all the way
For now just stick to some f2p MMORPGS
Good ones: Cabal Online or just try
www.mmohut.com and check out his youtube channel ....This will certainly help you find a nice MMORPG
There is Metin2 that has A LOT of lebanese players, But I dont suggest IT ALL ..because it has the worth cash shop EVER made in an MMORPG...and I'm not bluffing or exaggerating .
P.S.:Aion is pretty much dying ...Dont go for it.

Max level in Aion is currently at 55. The game has it's PvE side which isn't as rich as WoW, and has its PvP side which (what practiced well) is one of the best PvP systems in mmorpgs. But as i said before, i quit the game recently cz a lot of my friends left and i found myself kind of alone. I'm sure with future patches, population will rise again in this game.
My advise for you is to try Rift, it's getting a lot of good feedbacks so far.
Flakk
Out of the list i only played Guild wars. Its a really good MMO highly recommended.
Now maybe if you can wait a little and get Guild wars 2 and SW the old republic.

True, I played metin2 UK server for two years, it was my first MMO, but I left it when I realized how much RL money it needs to be at least good, not to mention the solo gameplay defeats the purpose of MMO. Another thing is that the lebanese there don't really care for each other. Lots of scams, flaming, and cheating going on. I dont recommend it for anyone as well.
Most of you are waiting for Guild Wars 2 and SWTOR, hopefully I'll get to try them when they come out. So for now I might go with Rift I guess.
Good to know what all of you waiting for, thanks for the replies :D

Oh i'm waiting for Blade & Soul, i'm a sucker for good looking Korean mmos :D

looks decent, but a lot like metin with enhanced graphics.
Ruroken
The enhanced graphics are not the only key in B&S, they're offering a whole new combat system and a whole new approach to questing. You won't have the traditional quests "kill x number, hand in, take xp", according to what they say, quests will play a key role in how you shape the story of the game. Not to mention the combat system is amazing, especially for the Kung-Fu or Assassin classes, but i hope it doesnt require super low latency or else we're fucked.

NCsoft was working on Lineage 3 ( Now Called TERA ) the team deflected from NCsoft for Contract issues , and they took their engine/ideas with them . and they continued the project under the name of TERA : The Exiled Realm of Arborea .
Since NCsoft had a large loss in court , since they didn t have any right on the IP or the Dev Team , but they already knew what Lineage3/TERA was about , they started working on B&S .
P.S. :Not Saying That TERA > B&S or vice versa
Ruroken
Well you can't really blame them for trying to compete with TERA. And thus far, B&S is receiving more positive feedback than Tera, but it's definitely too early to judge who's gonna rule over there. With that being said, B&S is still quite different than Tera, especially in its combat and questing systems. On the other hand, i truly thing Guild Wars 2 will do much harm on both IPs, especially on Tera, since B&S will take a bit more time to come out.
P.S: You might call me optimist, I expect Aion 3.0 to give Tera a big blow.
Devaz
oh you mean the aion vision thing ?
Ok TERA & B&S's Combat system and whole game mechanics =/= Then GW2 and Aion
BUT i do believe that GW2 will suck a big portion of the MMO Market , as for Aion , well it's only "weak" in the west , it still has abt 3 million players worldwide ( according to the december 2010 charts )
as for Feedback , last time i checked B7S wasn't released in the east yet but tera has , and has already gotten numerous 9.5/10 ........ unless you're talking about Beta feedback
Badieh
So I see most of the new MMOs coming out are focusing on storyline, this goes the same to SWTOR: Star Wars the Old Republic where they say every decision you make while questing will change how things go in the future as well as your alignment.

Yes i was referring to the Vision of the Future, which some of it's elements were released in patch 2.0 and 2.5 and the biggest part of it will come in 3.0. One thing i'm definitely sure of is that many of the players who quit Aion will definitely come back to check out 2.5 and then 3.0, so depending on the release time of these patches Aion will manage to regain some of its customer base, the only problem is with retaining them and keep them there.
I truly believe, that even at the moment, with the lack of end-game content and the numerous departure of players, Aion still offer the best combat system in the mmo world. Even Tera kinda looks weird and feels weird when you compare it to Aion. It's so sad if Aion dies this way because the guys who developed it really managed to offer an awesome combat system. You can watch this video (even if you might not know half of the things that are happening) and will still appreciate it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvt3J1Pl2RQ&feature=related
As for B&S, i was basing my comment on the feedbacks that are related to beta, which was displayed at one of the game shows. Tera started off in a good way but nowadays players are complaining about a lot of things.

Actually i did play Aion for a couple of Months on Launch , Sorcerer Level 50 ( and yes i do admit i gave the account to a friend at level45 and he used bots till 50 , there is only so much i could grind at the time after being "care-bear-ed" by WoW for a couple of years , loved the graphics , the crafting wasn't useless but leveling it was sure a pain in Launch cause the workshops were literally full , liked the combat/combo system but did NOT like the limits it sets , it is not smooth at all cause they are animation locked , and you can't turn while casting , i can say alot of good things about aion but one this is for sure , There will be always a scar caused by Aion and especially NCsoft on the people who left aion .
P.S. : the Comment About NCsoft is first GameGuard , and then their very very poor account security system that was totally ridiculous .
