So i plan on getting a laptop and i am stuck between two. The first is a toshiba satellite with 4.0 gb , intel 2.5 ghz i3 250 hdd , for 950 $ the second is a hp with 4.0 gb ram , 2.8 ghz AMD core and 500 gb hdd for 1050 $.The thing is that some are telling me that toshiba and intel are better in Lebanon.I dont think its true just want to ask some people who really know about this. Also i dnt need that much space , i had a toshiba before and wont use the laptop for alot of gaming because i hve a 360
which laptop do i get?

They are really good if it's not for gaming (:
I bought one at hokayem for 500$ with a core i3, 320 hdd, 2GB DDR3, 15.6'', HD graphics :D with windows 7 ultimate

or check khoury home, they have some decent acers with no OS ( so cheaper ) since you are not using it for gaming, just personal use
ie: media/internet/docs and install ubuntu or linux Mint and you are good to go
EDIT:
but if you want to choose one of the 2 options you supplied, i'd go with the HP/AMD one

We've discussed it a million times before: HP is crap! The overheating and battery problems just cannot be overlooked. Go for anything but not an HP. Toshiba are known to be of good quality.
@Monkey: The Acer you mentioned is very interesting. I need to give Hokayem a visit soon because my HP laptop died last summer and I need a replacement.

About the battery... How long does a MacBook Pro battery last?
i have a macbook 13.3". battery lasts for 5.5 hours.
now you got me more confused :p
This is a nice page that tells you about the technology they use for batteries. It seems they can sustain up to 8 - 9 hours with wireless use. Mine is always hooked up to a cinema display, so it is constantly being charged. Besides, the battery technology has been changed not so long ago (a year back?) – make sure you ask people when they bought their laptop if you're checking for real life results.Kassem wroteAbout the battery... I have MacBook White (mid 2010) since August, the battery life is dependent on many factors:
1) The OS you are running: if you are running on MacOS, it would handle for about 7-8 hours. While if you are running Windows on BootCamp, it would handle for 5 hours max
2) Ports and Connections: if you are connecting USB devices to you laptop, and turing on Bluetooth and AirPort ON, this will consume more power, depending on the connected devices.
3) The Hard Disk Drive: I have replaced the original 250 GB Hard Drive that came with it by a 500GB HD taken from a Toshiba Laptop, the battery life decreased by 20%
4) Software you are running: if you are using Google Chrome instead of Safari, it uses the memory and the CPU more. Therefore the battery life would be decreased.
5) The Screen Brightness: reducing the screen brightness will increase the battery life tremendously. so try to decrease the brightness as much as you can. recent laptops have LED screens, the brightness is satisfying even on the middle levels.
keep in mind, the most important part of the laptop is the VGA. Most of other parts can be upgraded later ( Memory, HDD..) . Although you will not use it a lot for gaming, but you will notice the difference when viewing pictures and watching movies.

I have 3 Macbooks and the batterylife is dependable how you charge it .Sometimes you need to reconfigure the battery using a special charging cycle over 1.5days. after that you should have with the actual series around 8-10 hours while watching videos, browsing, and using voip.
Suggestion? BUY ONE ! You will never regret this, believe me, but do not buy it at Macworld he`s a fake ( not official even if he claims so) selling refurbished stuff that has being used as display Unit in his shop to higher prices than anywhere even in Lebanon.
