iPhone Help: Upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.0 not to 4.2.1 (3GS)

Hey guys, my friend wants me to upgrade his iphone to iOS 4 and doesn't care which version but just wants 4, so i proposed he get 4.0 since he can jailbreak directly from jailbreakme.com . So, we agree on 4.0, i download the whopping 350MB ipsw but an error pops up i think 3914. He has shsh blobs for all versions from 3.1.3 till 4.3 beta.
Thanks, anyone have some advice. Btw he doesn't want 4.2.1 because he doesn't want a tethered jailbreak.

If he has the blobs, he needs to use TinyUmbrella to fake the key signing and make it look like it came from apple servers. There are plenty of step by step tutorials out there on how to do that.

Also you may want to checkout www.iclarified.com they got nice wizards that will help you unlock and jailbreak after upgrading in the tutorial section. I suggest upgrading to ios4.1 its very stable and will support most apps. Goodluck.
