For all of you WoW players, I'd like you to share your knowledge abt World of Warcraft Cataclysm Expansion. What happned to the classes ? Talents? any overpowered classes? Improved graphics? .... A beautifull topic, and helpfull to newly registered players such as myself who hasn't played since the WOTLK came out ... feel free to share, please do :)

and the other is Goblin:small green dudes that look like gnome with nightelf ears but are green...Horde
and new patches if you care to read them go to wow website...and thats pretty much it.

DPS
All classes were changed.
Some classes retained the same mechanics such as shadow priests which mainly now have mind spike and shadow orb as an addition for fast/direct dps on targets that are expected to die in less than 10 secs or so.
Elemental shaman DPS rotation is still much similar to what it was back in WoLTK.

Other class mechanics were radically changed (almost to the point of being redesigned) such as paladins who now use a 3 point holy power combo system in conjunction with mana.

All aoe damage was greatly nerfed and aoe spells seem to be highly taxing on mana now.

Healers
Healing was greatly modified. You will feel the difference once you hit level 81 ... but more so when you get to 85 as your spells will cost a lot of mana and heal for rather small amounts (compared to WoLTK).

Mana regeneration was nerfed to the point where a healer can hardly (if at all) save the day anymore if the tank and/or DPS do not stand out of the fire, interrupt mobs, etc...
It is not necessary (even very hard) to keep everyone's health topped now unless the situation really calls for it (i.e. you know a big aoe damage is incoming soon).

Tanks
Tanking also changed. Stacking on stamina as much as you can, as it used to be in WoLTK, is now NOT the best way to go because tanks can hardly be 1 shot now (especially those who are block capped so they take damage in more constant/linear way). Block rating was scrapped. All attacks that are blocked are reduced by 30%.
Avoidance (dodge, parry and block) are all now more important than in WoLTK.

You will also notice that the difference between a tank's HP and other dps (even caster dps such as mages) is not as big as in WoLTK. You used to see a mage with 20K HP and tanks with 40K HP (2 times bigger).
Now you can easily see dps with > 100K HP while most tanks average around 140K HP (1.4 times bigger).

Conclusion
In summary, I would say Cataclysm is the following:

If a group knows what they are doing, the mechanics of a fight, and how/when to use ALL their abilities then the game is still enjoyable and not that hard. It simply becomes a nice challenge (compared to some boring times in WoLTK... gather up all mobs and just aoe them down... zerg through the instances in 10 minutes).

If a group has no clue what their class can do to help, when to move out of stuff, constantly breaks CC on marked mobs, etc... then the game becomes a nightmare and wipe fests are on the menu.

One thing remains true though: the healer always gets the blame...
to Summarize DG's Conclusion Even More , If you Played pre-WotLK with people who also Played pre-WotLK you'll be Fine , If not , Let's just say you'll be seeing the Spirit healer Very often

Oh And DG : Tank Dies Healer's Fault , Healer Dies Tank's Fault , DPS Dies Their own Damm Fault ;)

Great !!! So ... I didn't miss out on that much :P I didn't play WOTLK, I played the classic and TBC, TBC not for long, didn't raid that much just PVP ... got boring bel ekher. What I really miss, the WOW classic's instances difficulty and the skill needed, whether it's 40 man raid or just 5 man party. And you guyz made it clear (thank you DG for the explanation (Y) ) that what i miss... is back ! the true skill ...
lol devaz is right :P i'm just 1 year old wow player :P and 7 months EU player :P and oh my god im seeing the spirit healer more than im seeing my parents everyday :P he knows me now last time he invited to stay for dinner :P
"Waves" Hey it's Not my Fault i've Not seen the Spirit healer once yet EXCLUDING Tol Barad , but again i didn't get back to the Raidforce , but for HCs i run with guildies so yeah , we never die cause everyone knows what to do , OK Josenad ,,, Vanilla WoW is Dead ( Sadly ) Cause Activision Blizzard want the game More Accessible and All-on Easier So it attracts even More people , Even though i hate the term itself , WoW is becoming for "Casuals" Except For HCs( heroic raids not Heroic instances "Edit" ) which require some Dedicated Raiding . but 40 Man Raids are dead and will NEVER ( trust me on this one ) Be brought back , but Heroic Raids are "Good" My guild has gotten abt 4 Heroic Bosses down , And my Friend's guild has 6 bosses down so year It is "Challenging" but it's Not Vanilla WoW .

Personally i don't Think WoW is dead , but i finally understood what the Devs meant ,when WoW first launched , by saying " It Will Take you 6 years to Beat the Game" I've been Gathering "Shinies" and Gearing up since T4 ..... i bought Cata but i'm just not Gonna Bother . But ofc i am Not telling you To or Not To Try the Game , Cause every player has his own view of the game .
Cool ... well from what i've gathered of information, I'd say Cata is better than WOTLK (the reason I stopped playin was waiting for a new extension, When WOTLK came out, I was unimpressed and unpleased, somehow i'm pretty excited for Cata, i'll be starting next week) but what i didn't like, is that somehow Classes are now appearing in various races, which is the only thing so far that i don't like ...For example, who could imagine a Tauren Paladin for God's sake ...
Tauren Paladins Have Existed Since WotLK btw their Were hints about them but they weren't Playable , Said it then and i'll say it now since is what a Holy Spec Paladin Tauren should say in /2 : Holy Cow LFG ! "Chuckle"

Their Are Even Tauren Rogues , You just never see them , They Are THAT good ( Old WoW Joke )
Anywho The Thing was not related to LoreIn Any Way ( Trolls becoming Druids -.-'' ) but it was more of a Balancing Issue to give the classes equally to each side and not limiting them to 1 race or Faction .

i can't Even Believe you mentioned the Tauren Paladin that is the Most Acceptable one , ....... Gnome Priest ! i would never Entrust a Gnome healer :P

i think a gnome priest i kind of more acceptable , why can't they have priests ? they have warlocks , they have mages ! they don't have any healing class or didn't until now..



but what's the use of a tauren paladin FFS ??? tanking ? they got warriors and druids !! healing ?? they got shamans and druids too ! DPS ? well every race has it's dps , tauren case we talk about shamans warriors druids deathknights...why the hell tauren paladins and tauren priests ?? what ? a holy cow ?? a cow that prays in a chapel ? :P i'm way against this tauren paladin thing !! i think tauren priests are acceptable but paladins ?? not in a million years !!

you have plenty of popular realms : sylvannas , twisting nether ( where i play ) , archimonde , argent dawn , ragnaros etccc

I would totally recommend Cataclysm. They pretty much fixed every aspect of the game.

Raiding wise: Now the 10 man raids drop same loot as 25 man. Less people in raid, means less chance to mess things up.

PvP wise: They added rated Battlegrounds, where you get 10 people in group and queue for a rated BGs. With that, they brought back the old ranking titles system (Private, Sergeant, Lieutenant...). They balanced the arena fighting system by preventing some of the OP skills to be used in there, such as Heroism(New) and Army of the Dead(old).

Guild wise: They added guild achievements and guild reputations, with that came perks and rewards.

Classes wise: The tree system took a huge makeover, not only they are now 31 points per tree down from 51, but you cant add points in other trees until you go all the way down to 31. Many races got new classes mix which they can roll such as Tauren Paladin, Priest Gnomes, Dwarf Shamans, Troll Druid...

Leveling wise: they fixed all the quests making them more tolerable and fun along with adding dungeon quests which can be picked from within the dungeon. No need to go quest outside just to get your dungeon quests.

That's all I can think of now :)
and yet...we had 2 hours continuous wipes yesterday while doing glory of the ulduar raider at yogg-saron ! that fat ass faceless horror is still tricky ! hardest fight ive been in ( dropped LK to 25% during WOTLK and he's nothing comparable to yogg-saron ) ! :P

about topic , yea the guy said it , cataclysm is way way for fun than WOTLK i would recommend it to every wow enthusiast

Last saturday we pugged the whole glory of the ulduar doing all the achievements. The trick to defeat Yogg at 85 is going with Freya as keeper. People that havent done Yogg are prone to more silly mistakes leading to a wipe. With freya around, you can almost avoid losing sanity. All you need is 2-3 good dps to go into his brain when the portal opens in phase 2, and burn it down to 30%. Once this is done right, 3rd phase is just throwing hero and cooldowns to kill him. Even as a full group of 85 we wiped quite the number, few times till people got used to avoid the clouds in first phase, and the other times to get used to going inside the brain and leaving before getting MCed.

But I can see how hard this fight is with 219 gear and level 80s hehe. The only reason people think Wotlk was a joke is because most people got so geared that the fights turned easier, but to be honest, Cataclysm Heroic dungeons are turning a bit like Wotlk dungeons, tanks with 170k HP and dps with 16k dps makes CC'ing just useless. I did expect that though, and told the people this day will come when all complained how hard it was.
