Since yesterday night I have been having a big problem.
My "DSL" (4th modem) led and "Internet" (5th modem) led are going down almost all the time.
Ever since I subscribed with Sodetel this NEVER happened. The DSL led never turned off. It was only the Internet led that was giving me some problems.
At first I assumed it was due to the fact that this was New Year's eve and the phone lines were congested yesterday night but the same problem is still happening today and it's only 9:00 am ... I doubt the phone lines are still that busy now.
Could this be related to Sodetel's equipment or is the DSL led something that's only linked to the "centrale" ?
Note: My brother lives in the same house and has a DSL connection with Ogero (on another different phone line/number) and he does not have this problem.

Assuming that you have already eliminated the possibility of a bad modem, in my experience this is never a good sign.
I had a similar problem about a year ago. The problem of a blinking DSL led (or totally off) is usually indicative of a "noisy" line. There may be crosstalk among different cable pairs from your house to the central or perhaps some other conductivity problem.
In our case, Ogero had to come and replace the cable. This is only my guess of course so I hope your problem isn't that bad.

Alright, but why did this only start happening yesterday night ? New Year's Eve.
I've been a DSL subscriber for 2 months and the DSL led never went off.
If there was a problem with the cable pairs from my house to the "centrale" wouldn't that mean my brother's DSL (same house but different line) should also suffer since he should also be going through the same cable pairs leading to the "centrale" ?
**Edit: Seems to be working now... stable for the past 2.5 hours or so.

Well, it was the same with us. Ours had been working for months and then suddenly one morning it just started happening. Like you, we also had multiple lines on that one physical cable but only one of the lines had a problem.
Perhaps it had something to do with the storm. I hope yours is fixed for good.

I am not sure what you mean by "multiple lines on one physical cable".
My brother has been using DSL for some time now on the phone line that has always been there for more than 20 years... ever since we moved to this house.
As for me, I applied for a new line and a new number a few weeks before applying for a DSL connection.
So wouldn't that mean we have multiple lines on multiple physical cables ?
Or you mean that both telephone lines / numbers are connected through the same physical cable from the "centrale" to my house ?
I'll let you know if the problem is solved in a few days as I cannot be sure until I test it for some time.
But one thing is for sure, I doubt the storm that hit Lebanon 2 weeks ago has anything to do with it. If it did, then I would have had the problem long before yesterday.
I think it's due to the fact that it was New Year's eve yesterday and we all know how congested the network can get when everyone is trying to call family and friends from landlines and mobile phones. Hell an sms can sometime take hours to be delivered on New Year's eve.
My problem started at 10:20pm yesterday night and apparently only happened once early this morning.
I was able to play WoW for many hours today in the afternoon.

To have a "line" you only need 1 pair of wires. The physical cabling from the central typically has multiple pairs, could be 20 or 30 pairs. So you physically have only 1 cable...but it's got multiple pairs inside. That's what I mean by "multiple lines on one physical cable".
Your neighborhood may have a junction box somewhere that separates those multiple wires to different houses. When you applied for a new line, Ogero basically just connected you to that junction box where there are unused and open wires going to the central office.
You should be able to hear a clear tone when you take the cable out from your modem and connect it to a phone. If there is noise, then there is a problem with signal/line quality. Also if your modem's admin site has some kind of statistics or status page, look for signal to noise ratio. The higher the SNR, the better (better to keep it above 10dB).
But of course all of this is irrelevant if you say the problem hasn't happened again :)

Currently the SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB] is 22,0 / 20,0
Some days the SN Margin (Down) drops to 15,0 for a while (especially at night) but that's the lowest I have ever seen it go.
SN Margin (Up) is fixed at 22,0 all the time.
There is no noise when I connect a phone to my new line. I can clearly hear the tone without any interference whatsoever.

Ok now the DSL light is stable but I have a more annoying problem.
Everytime the electricity is back... I get disconnected from the Internet (DSL and Internet lights go off).
This also was not happening when I subscribed in November 2011... it only started 1 week ago and it's VERY annoying.
I switched UPS units... still getting the same problem.

That is an annoying problem.
It must be a problem at the other end, I'm not really sure. In this case, your guess is as good as mine.

sorry, i didn't fully read your post, but DSL light is off means a tel cable problem, did you try to plug the modem into another outlet? did you check your splitter or changed it ?

i suspect a wire problem, try to connect your modem directly to the main outlet in your place.

Thanks for the late reply.
This was fixed when I had someone change the connection/wire to my modem.

It seems my joy/success in getting a stable DSL connection was short lived.
3 days ago I started losing sync again (both DSL and Internet leds going off).
I checked my S/N Margin down (which had previously been in the range 19 - 24 for the past month) and to my surprise it was 5.5 dB !
The funny thing is my brother (Ogero subscriber on a totally different physical phone line) is experiencing the same S/N drop at the same time I get it.
I almost had a fight with Sodetel on the phone and in the end they came up with the same excuse "Sorry there is nothing we can do for you anymore, we have tried contacting Ogero and they weren't cooperative and/or willing to switch your line".
I know some people in Ogero. I hope they can look into it.

Those problems are only with Ogero and Sodetel or what ?
I was an Ogero user then i switched to IDM. I really never had a problem with them, i download at 100 kb/s from 11:00 PM till 7:00 AM, i finish downloading like 2.5gb each day. When i had Ogero, i couldn't download a thing, i always pay at least 50$ for extra download.
Good luck solving your problem.
dg-1618
I don't think it's ISP related.
I assume it's something to do with the junction box in my neighborhood because my DSL connection wasn't any better when I tried IDM, Terranet and Cyberia.

How is this?
I'm an IDM user and i ALWAYS experience Horrible latency, time out, and never get the promised connection (I have 512kbps, and i download at like 44kBps MAXIMUM)
And I DON'T have unlimited night traffic (but that's thanks to OGERO :S)

How do you check your S/N Margin ?

Badieh wroteHow do you check your S/N Margin ?
For a Thomson modem:
1) Go to
http://192.168.1.254
2) From the left menu select "Broadband Connection" -> "DSL Connection"
3) At the upper right corner of the page select "Details"

How did you get Ogero to come and replace the cable? When talking to them or Cyberia they always say the problem is because of the user, never the cables...
ryeobot
I work for a university and we have a corporate DSL connection which as you know costs thousands of dollars a month. I'm guessing IDM didn't want to lose us so they were the ones who pressured Ogero to replace the cable.
We also have an in-house telecommunications expert that determined without a doubt that the problem is not the user.
dg-1618
There we go again, I got disconnected from the Internet 4 times in the last 2 hours !
Both DSL and Internet leds go off for about 1 minute.
I called Sodetel and they said there was a global problem with DSL today in the entire country but it had been solved.
When I asked how come the same day DSL problems in Lebanon appeared ... I started getting successively disconnected ? They replied: "The two issues are not linked... it's just luck !"
