Hi everyone, I have a sodetel DSL internet connection at home. I connect to sodetel via a THOMSON ST585 modem and router. I have a total of 10 devices that connect to the router, 4 laptops, 4 mobile phones, 1 PS3 and one desktop/file server. All those devices share the connection and stream media to each others.
With this router I always got a few issues streaming SD videos to the PS3 (pause of a couple of seconds every 15 minutes) and I never managed to stream HD videos to it. Copying files on the wi-fi connection never reached a speed of more then 2 MB/s.
Recently the router started restarting at least once an hour or whenever a new device connects to it. It's really annoying specially if you're watching something or playing online so I need a new one.

I contacted sodetel thinking they could offer some assistance in choosing a router but the answer was "your router is the best we have so get a new similar one".

What are your suggestions? I have no problem getting a modem and a router that are separate. Wireless N is a big plus for the router and if it has a USB port it's another plus but I don't really care much about that. Please specify the price and the place that sells the stuff you suggest!

Thanks in advance.

If no one can suggest an option for me, can you tell me about your setup and whether it is causing you any problems or suggest stuff to avoid?

Well it depends of how much you wanna spend into this and if you are planning to get to do more than routing and pushing files back and forth.
Thanks for the reply, I am willing to pay up to 150$. I just want the routing / file transfer stuff.
Well, there i would recommend the WL-Router ASUS RT-N16 http://www.cnet.com.au/asus-rt-n16-wireless-router-339298697.htm.
The nice thing is that it has a minipci slot which is for now ok but when you start to have laptops that have wireless cards that support the N Standard, you can buy a Wireless-N card and switch it with the one in it.

enjoy.
Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know any store that sells it?
Not in lebanon. But if you have relatives that are living in the states and are planning to make a visit ask them to get one at ebay :)
I had the experience that everything costs in Lebanon 3 times more than outside. Don't know why but could be possible that is has been touched by the holy lebanese salesman. :p
Thanks, yesterday someone asked me if I wanted anything with him from the states! I guess I'll ask for this router!
I had the Thomson 585 too, lately it started restarting randomly, and even more it occurred when my brother and I try to play online a game at the same time it dies and couldn't handle us both, I knew then that the it is dead. (it served 4 years though)
I started googling for another good routers, giving the fact that I dont have anyone coming from the US or EU, I visited pcandparts page and saw the available modems and started comparing until finally I decided to get the " TPLink TD-W8960N ADSL2+ Wireless N 4 Ports Router" because at home we have 2 Desktops, 2 laptops and 3 phones This router is way better than the Thomson and can handle more data, plus there is a shitload of features written on the box like "ideal for online gaming, video streaming, extended wifi range (300 mbps on WEP)" and in fact after using it for 2 weeks from now I am more than satisfied in addition it starts faster than the Thomson, I mean in the past when I turn ON my PC and the modem the PC always reaches the desktop before the DSL led stabilize, but now even before the PC reaches the desktop the modem is already connected and ready to use.
PC and parts sells it for 80$ + tva (8$), I got it from somewhere else for 70$ 5alis m5allas.
Good luck for you I just wanted to share my experience but the TP-Link TD-W8960N is a great modem.
I don't trust these routers from our beloved ISP, you really don't know what they do with it. The TP-Link TD-W8960N is not bad, they do good routers. But as any company they use the most minimal HW to get things going. I have opened one of the mentioned Router to take a look at the HW, and don't offer any HW-Upgrades like switching wlan cards.

Actually it is better to have ADSL+Wireless routers for many reasons...

This Router should MATCH your wants as in your "quote".
Didn't test it myself for performance.

Linksys X3000 N Router with ADSL2+ Modem
http://home.cisco.com/en-apac/products/gateways/x3000
I don't know where it can be found, but ask someone and navigate to "Shop" page.

Except/Without a USB port.
A very good one as i tested myself for performance.

D-link ADSL 2740U
http://www.dlink-me.com/index.php?navigation=products&owner=28&product=29&product_details=289
It is available in the Gulf, Syria, Jordan, (Except Lebanon) etc.. just navigate to the "Where to Buy" page there...

Please compare both and check their reviews and ratings for your decision.
Maybe get a higher quality and router (not dsl modem) and just use your dsl modem for an internet connection. Turn off the wireless and just use the money to get a gigabit router, maybe like the Netgear N900.

i have the cisco x3000, its a really solid modem/router, but i still recommend you get the highest end tp link and flash open wrt on it, x3000 is awesome but not customizable enough
Waiting for my Buffalo WBMR ADSL Modem/Router, the only combo on earth that supports PPPoE... (custom ddwrt patch for ADSL)...

+ it has high end features, Wifi N 300mbps, Gigabit ETH, USB NAS , printer share and others...

high memory (RAM) size etc..

hey guys I too want to buy a new router do think I should get the TP LINK WDR4300 or the cisco EA2700 ?? please help really lost
@omarmasri: i recommend routers from microtik
Get Cisco. They're awesome! I have had a Cisco router for 8 years now and it's rock solid. They have been in the business for a very long time. They're also know as "The best out there" But be ready to pay a premium price. We've used TP-LINK at my old job and we've changed it like 2 or 3 times. The LAN ports seem to have problems, and every time I try to connect something via Ethernet cable the thing just derps and stops connecting until you restart it manually.

D-Link routers are also very good. They're rock solid and cost as much as TP-LINK. But most TP-LINK routers have better wireless coverage than D-Link, and D-Links have better coverage then Cisco. But Cisco is just so awesome and so rock solid. I have experienced all 3 brands and Cisco is by far the best out of three. But if I were in a budget I'd get D-Link. BTW you do know that both of those routers are routers and not DSL modems right ?
yea Avo I know that and I have been thinking if I should get one of them or get a modem router combo maybe getting a router is a better choice. what do you think ?
PS: I now have the D Link 2640u from ogero the problem with this router is that the antenna has broken and the coverage has become very low
