I guess the number of fans will be few but i can' t wait for hp7 part 1(movie) next week! The game looks promising with kinect but i don't have high expectations though. Also i've been reading some reviews of the movie everything is great untill now(second act feels slow for some) but the split felt unecassary i don' t agree with that because they have left lots of stuff out in previous movies that they now have to explain lots of stuff .
any harry potter fans here?
I'm an HP fan as well, can't wait for the final two parts :D
I couldn't make anything of what you said however.

good to know .what i said is that from reviews of the hp7 part 1 (the movie premierd yesterday) every review is positive but critics are complaining about the movie being split in two parts.xterm wroteI'm an HP fan as well, can't wait for the final two parts :D

I think the right question is: "Anyone here is NOT a Harry Potter fan?"
Going to watch Part 1 next Wednesday :D
I've seen a couple of the movies, and snippets of others. I'll probably watch them all once they're done, and then read the books for good measure.
My girlfriend is obsessed with them. She actually bought an audio book version and we spent hours listening to them. I'm not the biggest fan, feels a little too childish, but I did read (hear) all of the books.
/* SPOILER ALERT */
I'm a huge harry potter fan (read my first HP novel when I was like 12 just after finishing the R.L. Stine Goosebumps series, great thanks to the librarian), and I'm also a member of Mugglenet.com, the official HP website for every single HP news piece.
The HP series is a great read. My favorite novel is the fifth (Order of the Phoenix) because of Umbridge's cruelty. As for the movies, well the best so far is the third (Prisoner of Azkaban), but do the movies match the novel read? Nope, not even close. As a matter of fact, the directors have slashed so many parts of the books that you can notice that if you haven't read the book, most scenes seem either incomplete or the plot-line has something missing.
I've had high hopes for the fifth movie release which was by far the worst movie ever (poor direction, not too much emphasis on the OWL exams or Fred and George's pranks). The sixth was better than the fifth, but still not as good as expected. I'm not placing high hopes for the seventh editions until I see them.
PS: Before the seventh book was out, a knock-off version was released on the web. Out of cheer curiosity, I read it. Beleive you me, that version was actually written better than the actual one, so much in fact that when I read the real version I was somewhat dissapointed by J.K. Roling because she could have done a better job (I like the bittersweet death of Snape, but killing Fred and then not having Ron or Ginny name one of their kids after him was plain wrong).
@rahmu: The audio books are boring because of the monotonous reading voice. Try ebooks or the hard cover ones, maybe you'll transform into a muggle-born fan too.

Whoa there! Please use "SPOILER ALERT" before disclosing plot points.
Luckily by the time I start watching / reading, I will have forgotten about these.

Ok how to put it... Here's what I dislike about HP:
- The teenage wizard thing going through normal teenage stuff is kind of superficial. It's understandable since it's a kid's book, but hey I'm not a kid.
- The overall story feels unstructured. It is a huge story after all, author had to write it progressively over 7 years + span. It's also understandable.
- The character of Harry Potter pisses me off. He's extremely self centered, it is always about his problems. He gets a super special treatment from Dumbledore and the higher staff at Hoggwarts. Unlike Japanese heroes (in Anime, RPGs, ...), Harry misses the badass element. He's just a whiny brat and everyone always takes care of him. He almost never does anything alone, doesn't have any real "internal battle to reveal his strength". He's really not likable.
- The story overuses made up words. It is cool because of the cool world the author creates, but I had a terrible time keeping track. So many times I had to ask my girlfriend to remind me the meanings of words like "Animagus", "Fizzing Whizzbees" or "Horcrux". By giving visual representation the movies make it easier to keep up. I think it's the only aspect in which movies are better than the books.
- The villain is not very villain. Up until the fifth chapter, he doesn't even exist. He feels like a distant menace. I need action. I need danger from the first pages of the book.

@bassem: woops, my bad...
@rahmu: hmmm, point taken, yes harry potter is a whiny brat and he's not really my favorite character (fred and george are, even though they're not main characters, as for main characters hermoine is my favorite because she's a bookworm like me), and yes the books are only fun when you start reading them in your tween years (that's how you get hooked in the first place). as for the plot, it falters at the end but it has a good start. but the core meaning of the HP series is not having harry potter as a "bad-ass" character, but rather someone who need to rely on friends and who needs to appreciate the value of love (mushy feelings, but hey, it was written by a female).
apparently, this kind of genre doesn't strike home for you, you look like a guy who appreciates independence and self-sacrifice, hence liking the inner conflicts and bad-ass attitude of Anime characters like Vash the stampede. HP is not an action adventure, so the villain is not your typical war-inducing criminal as much as a family and society value destructor (yes voldemort causes battles, but in the end the author focuses on the pain and social turmoil of these battles rather than the battle scenes).
after all this ranting, I can conclude one thing: you'll love Bleach because the battle scenes of the gotei 13 and the Ichigo character would appeal to you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Harry Potter is all bad. There are actually some good aspects to the series.
A great variety of character, a great imagination, lots of adventure, it's far from being boring. The exploration of teenage life (studies, romance, relationships with parents, sports, class rivalries, ...), although a bit too superficial is vast. Lots of villains too. The author is not afraid of killing liked characters for suspense. That's a good thing, it gets you more hooked.
Off the top of my head ..

Rahmu, spoiling a year old movie is different than spoiling one that hasn't been released. Mesa's post is the one you should be editing my friend.
Read all 7 books !!!!!! :P
the movies are great but the books are better .
can't wait for Friday :)

besides, there is news that is well more disturbing than these deaths and for a good measure, the author announced in a book review conference rather than the book itself or movie spin-off
actually, the death of snape and one of the weasely brothers were announced well before the seventh book was even written.xterm wroteRahmu, spoiling a year old movie is different than spoiling one that hasn't been released. Mesa's post is the one you should be editing my friend.

harry poter is overrated and besides the last film was ugly to my point of view comparing to its previous films !
harry was so whiny in ootp that i wanted to hit him with the book , the hp series isn't the literally best books that i have read but i love them the most because, i can relate to them. Also i realised that jk rowling really sucks at maths.
imo it was the slowest one because the book is mainly an introduction to the 7th but it was the funniest and most emontional one . its the second best after poa.jajoja wroteharry poter is overrated and besides the last film was ugly to my point of view comparing to its previous films !
i am a fan :) read the books couple of times - looking forward to see the movie :)
