Hamboza wrote@ Tako_400, i searched the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, and apperantly it's really powerfull, but i cannot tell if it's an equivelant of the i7 930, 950, or 980??? can you tell me, and about the AM3 chipset, is it available in the gegabyte UD9 or UD7 mobos, if not then can you recommend one? You are right, i need to get a mobo that can last...
Compared to the i7 9xx series' physical cores, 4 cores of the i7 are stronger than the 4 cores of AMD CPU's. But since the X6 has 6 physical cores, the i7's remaining 4 threads, or logical cores, are not as powerful as the X6 when it comes to an application that requires a low number of threads. However, if you use applications that can use a lot of threads (+6), you should take the i7's since they have 8-12 threads (depending on the number of physical cores). So you have to find out what you're going to be doing with your computer... If you're going to be doing any major work that requires a lot of threads, running a server, encoding videos, etc., you could use the 8-12 threads that the i7 offers. Of course, as I said earlier, the 8-core physical CPU's of AMD are coming out next year and they'll support the AM3 chipset. So you can get that later and have 8 physical cores instead of 4 physical cores and 4 logical cores (that the i7 provides). I'd always take physical cores over logical cores. They perform much better. But obviously, if you're going to be getting the the i7 980X, the 6 core, then there's no discussion whether you take that or the X6. You obviously take that since it has 12 threads. But know that once you get that, that's it. Intel is already developing two new chipsets. So your LGA 1366 will be obsolete by next year. They're heartless, I know.
And yeah, there is a UD7 AM3 mobo. It's called the Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD7 and pcandparts.com is selling it.
