I have a crapload here in the UAE. you should be able to get them at any computer shop for approx 3 dollars for about 10 diodes at least thats the case here.

I'm doing the same project but I'm trying to use a laser diode from a cd-rw but I cant get it to work, it lit once and now it wont light again, did I burn it? I'm using 3 volts to light it, is it possible it needs more?
It depends on the laser diode, some need 3 volts. but most of them need less. polarity is not a problem, it will not burn if you place it to the other sides.
Or he can use tester to find out correct polarity. :-)
i got some hardware, but im in germany :-/
when you say less do you mean 1.5 volts? how much volts are you using?J4D wroteIt depends on the laser diode, some need 3 volts. but most of them need less. polarity is not a problem, it will not burn if you place it to the other sides.
