I just want to know if someone tried to use WAP for internet on a blackberry device here in lebanon, especially for MTC line.

Thank you
As far as I recall, it doesn't work. You either need the mobile internet service (it gets you browsing capabilities but no BBM) or the BlackBerry Internet Service to get full access.

by any chance is the full access internet faster than the normal wap ?
cause i have lots of problems signing in and it takes a looong time and whatsapp doesn't work, whereas they don't have problems at all with the full package...
my internet is the 3 $ a month WAP
thx=)
Last month I configured my blackberry to work on the wap package, you gotta go options, advanced settings, tcpip, then choose: int.mic1.com.lb (not really sure)
then username: mic1
password: mic1

but you will only be getting browsing, no BBM
I have a bold 9000, and I have the 3 dollar WAP from Alfa. I simply called 111 and registered for it. However, the settings Babum posted for the "TCP/IP settings" are for Alfa ONLY. I don't have the MTC settings, but I'm sure they're different. I think you can get them from MTC's site.
And the 3 dollar WAP does not provide access to the built-in Msn Messenger, Facebook App, and BBM. (I suppose this is due to the invalidity of the service books to the Rim's servers).
However, you can easily compensate for that by using 3rd user applications; such as: For chat: Nimbuzz, Palringo, IM+ ect ..(They work on both WAP and Wi-Fi)
For Facebook: you can use the normal browser while having the settings as 'Hotspot Browser' for Wi-Fi or as 'Alfa Internet' for WAP
Or you can use Opera Mini which is much much much better than the built-in Browser (but it works only on Wi-Fi)
Whatsapp; unfortunately, only functions on Wi-Fi and BIS. It doesn't work with the 3 dollar WAP! :/
And BBM doesn't work with neither WAP nor Wi-Fi. You have to have the BIS
I'm waiting for someone to find a way to hack this so we can use BBM on Wi-Fi or WAP :p

Sorry does anyone know if whatsapp works on blackberry using GPRS ( the 15 $ internet from MTC or alfa ) ?
a month later
Hi,

BB 8250 with OS 5, called 111, activated wap, received sms and put theses settings:

WAP configuration:

Connection name: alfawap
Bearer: GPRS
Home page: m.alfa.com.lb
APN: wap.mic1.com.lb
Username: mic1
Password: mic1

nothing happens, still writes GSM next to signal strength, no edge or gprs or anything

any ideas?
