Release dates in the US are this November. If Microsoft are smart, they will give this a worldwide release very soon. Some countries have not yet been penetrated by iOS and Android, and a phone that touts keywords such as "Hotmail", "Facebook" and "Word, Excel" could generate buzz.
Speaking of Facebook, it will be integrated into the user experience much more deeply than other platforms. This follows Microsoft and Facebook's corporate handshake a few years ago. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Hopefully it will have settings to turn it on or off.
What else... the app store model will be similar to Apple's, where it serves as a single legitimate gateway, and apps must be approved. This is contrary to say, Google's model, which is less monitored.
There will be a Mac "tool" to sync your phone settings and data, however no word yet if it will be a full-blown client such as on Windows.
European release is 21st of October.
