Hey guys,
Which do you think I should buy, the iPhone 4 or an Anroid phone(HTC Desire, Google Nexus One, Samsung Galaxy S...) and why? Which is better, iOS or Google Android? Also, which is cheaper to get in Lebanon?
crazy
I'm in an almost similar situation. I have an iphone, and I'm bored with it. So I was thinking of buying an android, then rumors about a meego phone emerged, a rather nice nokia phone got leaked (you can google N9). So I'm waiting for this N9 to show up and then decide. Meego seems a really nice plateform, kind of evolution of maemo (the OS running on N900).
So my advice for you would be to wait this N9 :D unless you want something now, well go for android if you like tweaking and originality, go for iphone if you like an easy-friendly (no not user :p) use of a phone.
As for the price, I have no idea about them in leb, but it will surely be a ripoff :) and maybe more for an iphone than an android (meaning an android might be cheaper).
Edit:
By the way, welcome to the forum. If you hadn't yet taken the first steps for the introduction process, I invite you to do so. (read the forum etiquette, introduce yourself in the approriate section)

Johnny,
It is really up to how/where you are going to use it.
You need to post more about yourself if you want our recommendations to be somewhat objective.

I'm sorry I'm new here. I just introduced myself in the Introduction section( didn't know there was one:P).
crazy I did check the N9 out and it does look great, but it hasn't been officially announced yet so I can't count on speculation:P for now, the N8 looks great too.
As for the topic, this will be my first iPhone/Android phone and I've only used an iPhone for a bit in my life, but nothing more. I've never used or tried an android phone. No matter how much you read about something, you just can't know unless you experience it you know?
So basically, I need someone who's used both in their lifetime to tell me which they thought was better overall.

Did you know that samsung sold more Galaxy S than apple sold iphone 4 in the US?
Guess why: the iphone 4 has the infamous antenna problem!
This is my summary of iphone vs android 2010:
iphone wins over android in:
-A bit more stylish
-More apps
-Lot of accessories (virgin...)
Android phones win over iphone in:
-daily growing market (not long before reaching apple's market)
-TONS of custom roms(firmwares) so you will NEVER get bored (not it's not risky at all but follow the easy steps at xda) vs only apple ones
-TONS of customisations
-Prices more attractive than iphone
-Adobe flash in OS 2.2 and more
-open files transfer with Bluetooth
-overall good cameras with flash
-Faster menu than iphone
If you worry about wap both have similar problems and need tricks to make it work!
I have both Nexus One and Ipod 2G + tried ipad and iphone 4

vegetaleb thanks for the input!
So basically, in your opinion, android is much better than iphone 4? But does it have all the good, fun, and unique apps and games the iphone has? I mean, everytime I'm on a certain game site, there's always this section that "this game is also available for iphone and ipod touch" but never that they're available for android. So developers seem to devote less time for android and more for iphone.
Are you not satisfied with your iphone 4 vegetaleb?
vegetaleb
Actually you will get more fun with a Nexus One/Desire/Galaxy S than iphone 4, deja not all games for iphones 1,2,3 are made for iphone 4 (resolution difference). Yes the Android phones don't have perhaps 200k games on catalog but they have already half of them, don''t forget that apple is a heavy marketing company that throws millions of $ to put the iphone logo on every possible magazine or websites,Android is a plateform not a company so it's like comparing Sony or microsoft that advertise for their PS3 and Xbox360 while nobody advertise for PC games (while you know you have even more).
I invite you to visit some games websites like ipmart forums and see by yourself if Android is weak in games...
johnnyhayek
Thanks again!!!
What about their costs? I never get apps for anything unless they're free. I heard 62% are free or so. But are those 62% GOOD apps and games?

Johnny,
The worst thing you could possibly do is ask for advice about iPhone and Android, it's just as bad as asking about windows vs linux vs osx. Android fanboys will tell you to get an android based phone and apple fanboys will tell you to get an iphone. Your best bet is to try them both out before you decide.
vegetaleb
Dude you are right but I was a SE fanboy before using the N1 and as I said I have an ipod touch 2g with OS 4 and tried both iphone 4 and ipad for several days (returned back to my cousin) so I am not a specific OS fanboy, I just give out objective points.
About apps and games on the market the free ones are very usefull and stable(not like apple market) if you want paid apps you should use ''market enabler'' and use an US carrier so you could see and pay them because the Lebanese google market has only free apps and games.
I don't advertise piracy but in this particular scenario if you really don't have the choice and access paid apps/games you can always find 2000LL dvd or some websites with apk files...

You can check out the new nokia E7, running on symbian. Seems good too :) It is the evolution of the communicator series from Nokia. They might be back in the game (smartphone section).
Anyway, my advice is to try different phones, and buy the one that called your name ;)
Bassem
They're both perfectly fine. The only hard difference (here in Lebanon) is that Android handsets are cheaper than the latest iPhone.
wollyka
like xterm said, it depends on your preferences and needs.
I have both a Desire and an iphone 3GS. Both platforms are good. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
