@georald

I suspect that your monitor does not support HDCP through the DVI port. But im not sure.
I also have my ps3 connected through my LG2284f monitor and works fine using a DVI to HDMI cable. With just a press of a button on the side i can change displays between PC and PS3.
So from Flakk if there is no HDCP the PS3 display anything on your TV.

All lcd TVs are HDCP compliant. But not all pc monitors were. Now i think all of them are but you can look up a monitor on its website and see the full specs to check if its hdcp compliant.

For georaldc
I think its either the monitor not HDCP or a problem with the connector or you are not setting the video output right from the ps3 options.
It should be HDCP. My PC reports it as such and it says so on the LG website/spec sheet. Also, the OP has the same monitor and got it working fine. My cable is fine since it worked on another monitor I tried the PS3 on.

How can I set video output if I'm not getting any signal to begin with? I tried hooking both composite to a normal TV and the HDMI-DVI cable to my monitor. Holding the power button for a few seconds for auto detection gave me a signal on my TV, so I went to display settings and chose HDMI and the TV screen went blank, but my LG monitor stayed blank as well when supposedly it should come up then.

Think the monitor has a problem using whatever default resolution the PS3 sets HDMI to? (using DVI on my PC, this monitor doesn't show the BIOS/POST screens until I reach windows, but that just might be something else). Still, the OP has the same monitor which is why I'm wondering what's wrong with mine. Xbox 360 works on it with the same cable, PC works with the same cable as well using the HDMI to DVI adapted that came with my videocard, but the PS3 gives me nothing

I understand.
Heres how i remember doing it.

Try not plugging it in to the TV. Hook it up to your LCD monitor and press the reset button (for 5secs) it should get you to a low res similar to the TVs res. Then go to options an set HDMI and 720p res.

This was the first thing I tried and it didn't work. This is how I got it to work on a different monitor that's DVI as well. Oh well, sorry for hijacking the thread. I already sent the OP a PM so hopefully I can get some insight on what's different between his and my monitor. Thanks for the help though ^^

Np, Hope you can sort it out.
I think that u have to change the display option, from Analog to digital, the monitor won't automatically detect your PS3 plugged into it, you have to manually press the button on the screen to change the source of the Video.

I have 2 video sources (outputs)
1 - Analog
2 - DVI

I connected my PS3 through DVI & my PC to analog, when i want to switch between them I just press the "Source" Button on my Monitor.

Plus when you select Video & Audio Source in the PS3 menu, make sure to choose HDMI even though audio isn't supported on DVI, & then go to video options & set the resolution to 720p or 1080p what ever suits u well.
