Buying a PS3

Hi, today I finish my final exams. I'm in AOU, 3rd year ITC.
Anyway I intend to get a PS3 if all goes well.

What is the current price of the PS3, & what bundles is there with it ?
I'm interested in MGS4, KZ2, GoW3
how many gamepads, etc....
is it connected to the internet via wifi or direct cable (from my DSL Router)

What is the difference between the Slim & Normal PS3 ?

I intend to connect it to my PC screen, will it work at 1080p or 720p ? I have an LG W2252TQ
I guess that I can't put it at 1080p right ? will 720p do good ? correct me if I'm mistaken.

I don't intend to get an HD TV, & all this 3D talk i dont consider it worth it. I tried Nvidia's 3D at my friend's & didn't like it it gave me headaches.

ohh & I almost forgot, where is a good place to get it from ?
& what version to get, the Normal or the Slim ?

The price here ranges from $440 to $550 and bundles may include FIFA10 or Uncharted 2 as far as i know.
You can use up to 7 dualshock 3 controllers and it has Ethernet(1) WiFi too.The old fat ps3's used to have ps2 and MMC/SD memory cards support but later fat models dont have both so it is best to get Slim because it has the same thing but lghter weight and les power consumption due to CPU=45nm and GPU=65nm.
As for the place i can tell one thing, there is only one wholesaler here Alliance Electronics so dont expect much bundles and prices.

To answer your questions briefly:

PS3 bundles (console and 2 games ) are selling for 430 USD (or 480 USD; not sure).
This bundle comes with one controller.
You can connect it using WiFi or an ethernet cable (I recommend using the wired connection).
Get the Slim version (better quality, newer, lower power consumption).
Most of the games support 720p natively and only a handful support 1080p.
Try Nino first. He seems to have the cheapest bundles and has a huge selection of new (70 USD) and used (40 USD) games.

Just to add that fat models are the only ones which experienced ApocalyPS3. As for the TV well use an SD TV instead of the moniter because come on you want to play games on a small screen?!
P.S: It looks great on my SDTV. Plz tell us your moniter is CRT or LCD and can it take HDMI or only VGA?

Those are the BC PS3s (Backwards Compatible) that you can play PS2 and i think PSone games and also play DVDs, but i dont think you should go with the slim version (better storage and fewer power consumption and lighter).

If you don't have an HDMI input on ur computer screen then it's not worth plugging your future ps3 to it.

The best ps3 price is in the duty free. If you have someone coming over let him/her pick one up for you.

I have a problem wit PSN, when I try to ente PS Home or PS Store, it tells me that these aren't available to my region, and that PS Home cann't be used with my PSN account .

I've stated that I live in Lebanon, should I have said that I live in US ?
I've updated it to the latest firm-wire.

I haven't played any game yet with it, right now I have it connected to my PC screen, the picture is good. it's at 720P, also I don't have any audio yet :P gonna get an Optical Cable today afternoon from radio shack, this will fix my problem.

I have got for it MGS4 (please Kareem no spoilers) & also Resistance Fall of Men.

Create an account staying that u live in the uae.

You can refill your wallet. Using PSN cards that u can buy from sony world ... etc...

Note that game addons are sometimes region locked and will only work depending on the region of the game you have

I want to add that you can buy the PSN cards from Virgin Megastore too. Also, when you download anything from that store, you can still play with the content using your Lebanese account. You can access the PS Home using the UAE account.

All games purchased in Lebanon (Nino, Sony World, Virgin Megastore, etc...) work with the add-on content downloaded from the UAE store. Don't forget to double-check the game region code found on the spine of the game case. Before you download an add-on, be sure to check the description of the add-on and see if they mention anything about region codes. If they don't, then most probably the downloadable content (DLC) is region free.

Plz man i knew the story from A to Z but still was stunned by the game dont worry this game is an exception so nothing will be spoiled. Btw do you know the story?(like who are or what is "La-li-lu-le-lo").

y do they support the PSP that much they should get them on real systems.

funny thing about audio :

1 - Even though I have an X-Fi Titanium Sound Blaster that support both IN/Out Optical
yet when connect from the PS3 Optical Out to the X-Fi Optical in, the sound comes out as stereo from my T7900 (Creative 7.1) Surround.

2 - I can't enable Dolby Digital 5.1, but I can enable DTS 5.1.
I've configured my sorround to process 5.1 audio as 7.1.
rear left & right in 5.1 will come out as Side & Rear left-Right. I like it that way.
( i did so through the little tick "kabsa" that is behind the surround.

I can't enable DTS in Resistence FoM, & I get no audio. I have to select AAC, or the default 2 channel selected audio.
In MGS4 i can enable it.

in both the sound is good. thank god i can enable DTS 5.1.

Oh good to hear you were able to fix it.
I remember the ps3 only has 5.1 DTS and dolby digital plus the games should support Dolby digital or DTS for the sound to properly work.
So maybe resistance doesint support any 5.1 config. Depends on the games.

Hi Shatilov, how did you hook up your ps3 to your LCD? I currently have the same monitor (just LG w2252tq, not one of those variants like w2252tq-tf. Don't know if there's any difference between them though) and I've been having 0 luck trying to get anything to show up using an HDMI to DVI cable on our new PS3. The cable works fine on another monitor so I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong.
