just wondering how much does skype consume download and upload in 1 min

thanks ^_^
It really depends and you can never pinpoint how much a video conversation would consume bandwidth using Skype....
voice starts at about 64kbits/s. I dont know about skype, depends on your quality, I'd h have to hear it to get an idea about the bitrate.
For good quality, protocol overhead included, let's assume 128kbps (and that's like a maximum..)
so 128 * 60 = 7680
divide that by 8 you get 960 kBytes per minute.
So for a voice conversation (between 2 persons) I would say not more then 1MB per minute in every direction.
So as i speculated between 8-20MB but it depends on your bandwidth/quality.
I tested it before, it's minimum 5KB/s if you're not talking and up to 13KB/s mid-conversation.

Per Minute ? That's nice. and incorrect.
My COD - MW2 don't use more than 20 MB per HOUR while playing online. And i wonder, can you even download 20 MB/min in Lebanon ?

@kareem_nasser: Nothing personal man, but you should work on having exact numbers and correct statements instead of posting topics and linking to other topics as well. And believe me, being an UberGeek won't make any difference.

you remind me of a student who was with me in class last semester , he was asked to see how many pictures he could fit in an 8GB memory card if each picture was 1 MB . he converted 1 MB to 1000 KB , then converted 8GB to 8000 MB , he then multiplied 8000*1000 = 8,000,000 his answer was that he could fit 8 million pictures each 1 MB on a 8 GB memory card ..... and here you tell me that you can transfer 8-20 MB per minute !!
Hmm Jad+Yorgi this is the second time you criticize/flame. Samer?
@Jad Dont worry the real binaries are measured in bytes-kibibytes-mebibytes(2^20)..etc.
In SI a megabytes is 10^6 so your classmate is true if the one who asked didnt specify.
What's up folks? You are making it look like everyone needs to come down with a god-sent, true, accurate, precise and non-negotiable answer. What is this turning into ? The forum was not like that few years ago.

Someone flopped on some calculation.. rather estimation, BIG DEAL ? Seriously, give the guy a break...
I would say it's a little less than 20MB/hour.

2.5 hours of skype VIDEO CHAT consumed around 50MB of my bandwidth yesterday.
Hmm weird when i use Skype(video call) for like 30min it consumes 40MBs.
That is way too much... I do not think it's Skype alone that's consuming the 40MBs...
Well i should monitor it then.
But wait if i use Rolf's way i have 1megabit/sec down and 256k up so for download lets say it is about 50Kbytes/sec and in 30 minutes it'll consume 90MBs.
in 30 minutes we have 30*60=1800seconds * 50kilobytes/sec=90MBs
P.S: i use Skype only during the double speed basically from 8:30 till 9:00.
Just use any bandwidth monitoring tool and test it. Id use du meter and try a video call.
2 months later
i suggest installing a download/upload meter (www.dumeter.com) and close everything that might hog bandwidth (automatic updates, browsing, auto-refresh,etc) and try several shots to get an accurate answer. simple applied statistics :)
