Well they got a point, if you dont love something then you should give it up to someone who does. But that doesnt make hummus an Isreali dish.
They may not really love it, they just want to claim that hummus and falafel is theirs just to give themselves some cultural background and to say for the countries of the world that they do also have an old "culture" just like all the other countries in the region and that they have history in this region, and this itself is part of the elements that help them stay and expand in the lands they have their hands on today, they just want the people of the world to understand that this is their land and culture since the dawn of history.
Plus, sure they would love to see us give up hummus and falafel so that they can claim it and put it on their menu as part of their culture. And should not be surprised that there may be global plans against our country to try to change the taste and bindings of the Lebanese people to their real culture and silently deviate us away from it. In the end, we would end up following a foreign "modern" culture including the taste of food, and they would steal it from us. It is good that there some people who still care about out national foods and their belongingness.
Although IMO such an event is <arabic>sakhifi</arabic> and there are much more important stuff to look towards to as Lebanese people but still they are too, so we have no choice but to retaliate.
