just a note about irrlicht and OGRE, it's an endless war, just like mercedes/bmw, brazil/germany (in soccer) ati/nvidia and many others,
it's down to personal preferences, irrlicht is easier to set up and get smth on the screen, It is only one library with no other external dependencies. but OGRE has more features and once you get the hang on it, you can make wonders.
that's what im saying :) for a first time 3d programmer, i think irrlciht is easier that's it :)_joe_ wroteirrlicht is easier to set up and get smth on the screen, It is only one library with no other external dependencies. but OGRE has more features and once you get the hang on it, you can make wonders.
@elzalem you mean:Yves Guillemot.
Guys stop attacking Ubisoft here there are some gamers who like their games so you may gain some enemies here. :P

AAA games are the ones that score more than 90% in all reviews. It is not related to being a Hollywood scale game or what ever you said.
AS for independent studios, studios that are funded internally (self-funded) and not funded by publishers like 3DREALMS before they close their doors.
You are just mixing up things.

Because they are the ones being marketed and rated, do you see indian or korean movies rated? no, and that's because they're not in this race, they just are, independant and they have their place in the marketDark_angel wroteAAA games are the ones that score more than 90% in all reviews. AAA games = High-quality games with a high budget. Usually Backed up by famous publishers like EA or Activision. And the development studio is usually owned by the publisher. The dev team is often very large and more than 100+ people working on a single project or game. The publisher usually gives a deadline for the project to be finished, and the dev team must comply with that deadline.
They have a large Ad campaign and more attention from game magazines and game experts.
Distribution is made through retailers (game stores) and digitally.
AAA games are the traditional FPS, RTS or RPG games. Some are successful and good and some are utterly rubbish and are received negatively by the public.
Indie Games: Independent video game development is the process of creating video games without the financial support of a video game publisher. they are typically designed by an individual or 2 or 3 persons, ill give a 10 person max. They do not have any deadlines for releasing their games as they don't have a publisher.
Ads are few and don't get much attention from the public.
Distribution is done digitally.
Indie games are very innovative and have been extremely successful over the last few years. And have proved that games do not need a huge dev team or a 10 million dollar budget to be successful.

Both of you have right and wrong stuff but in general AAA are high budget games while Indie games may be published(or backed up) by huge corporations or companies like Bionic Commando Rearmed(or Flock!)(it may be considered as Indie) which is published by Capcom.

So if an Indie game scores a 90% or more in the reviews it will be considered as a AAA game ?Dark_angel wroteAAA games are the ones that score more than 90% in all reviews. It is not related to being a Hollywood scale game or what ever you said.
Originally AAA means that the highest possible score, but its not like that in the games industry today, if that's what your referring to.
I agree with you on this one.Dark_angel wroteAS for independent studios, studios that are funded internally (self-funded)
I disagree. Indie games cannot be backed up by any publisher of any sort. Thats why they are called Indie or Independent. If an indie company then chooses to sign a deal or work with a publisher they will be no longer called or labeled as Indie.kareem_nasser wroteBoth of you have right and wrong stuff but in general AAA are high budget games while Indie games may be published(or backed up) by huge corporations or companies like Bionic Commando Rearmed(or Flock!)(it may be considered as Indie) which is published by Capcom.

I dont see it that way i think the budget is what really matters.
@Flakk: i think you should check this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_video_game_development

While large companies can create independent games, they are typically designed by an individual or a small team of as many as ten people, depending on the complexity of the project. These games may take years to be constructed from the ground up or can be completed in a matter of days or even hours depending on complexity, participants, and design goal.
