Great! 10 GB for a 1Mbps is now acceptable. But I hope we'll also have unlimited offers...
EDIT: I see, nothing changed...
Kassem
@chosen2k: I do not see what changed about the plans... They are still exactly the same...
chosen2k
@kassem the Quota changed at IDM and Terranet and it remained the same at Ogero
Kassem
No it's still the same. This quota is split in half between upload and download...

What can we do?
Let's just stick to our "belief" that in February (or April) we will have super fast AFFORDABLE unlimited internet
If someone got any news I beg you to inform us :(

No. That's not going to happen before the backbone (fiber optics network infrastructure) project is finalized, which is supposed to happen by the end of 2011 - beginning of 2012. If anything is to happen by April 2011, it won't be anything major. Probably the speed and quota will be doubled, but do not expect unlimited broadband internet before the backbone is laid out.

I hate to let you down guys but Kassem is right 100%. If you have read articles of Mr. Charbel Nahhas talking about IMEWE he mentions that the national fiber optics must be finalized before we think of the 15 megabits/sec.

and so our high-priced, slow speeds, limited quote, and high latency suffering shall continue :(
But I though they said the Fiber-optic network would reach Big cities faster, but I guess you can't take their words for anything :/
*sigh* who needs 15Mbit/s right now? why not 2Mbit/s with more quota but less to wait for it masalan? :|

IMO, latency is key. a 1 mbps connection gives you around 100kB/s dl, which is quit good in terms of browsing and some games. now if that 1 mbps connection had a sub 15 ms ping time to the server it's connecting to, you woulndt even notice pages loading, it would be fast. if ogero (although having one of the best pings in leb) can get proper equipment that can handle a dedicated connection per user - the way it's done in some other contires for dsl - if the "centrals" can clean up their connections and tel lines would be underground instead of on poles, if we can reduce the noise in our connections from our walls and our demark points and we could gain something like 150+ ms i think it's much more valuable than doubling/increasing bandwidth. ie it would make the wait at least a bit more tolerable :)
nuclearcat
dp001 - sorry but you are talking total nonsense.
Latency locally can be generated by:
1)Link between exchanges
2)DSLAM settings
usually it is max 20+ms
Other part of latency it is international links. Lebanon is located physically away from Europe and USA, so latency is expected to be higher. Even at Greece it is a bit ugly, at Lebanon for sure it will be.
monkey-d-luffy
We only can reduce this high latency via Optic wire (:
So no need to make this big deal
300-500ms is "acceptable" for lebanon

1- That's not the only way
2- Yes we need to
3- No that's not even close to acceptable.
nuclearcat
Normal latency for lebanon is ~120-150ms. Very optimized path will provide in best case 70-100ms.

A manager in Ogero assured me that we are going to have a better internet starting in February... I'm sceptical of him, though.
Plus, he dropped out the possibility of heaving an unlimited quota before finalizing the whole project which will take a year! So....
Aly
Better internet is good as a starter, but is he a credible source ? I mean do you know him personally ? or he dismissed you the Lebanese way by telling you : ye ye you will have better internet by Feb now get lost ....
I am just asking you because I have a female friend who works for Ogero, in tech support department and she told me there is nothing in the horizon, so I was just wondering about your source :P

And now what !? - The government is down. Corruption is everywhere.
Another 5 years delay for our rights... ?
I fucking hate this country! I wanna kill'em all !
Ruroken
I'm not surprised........ I knew that having a decent internet is and will always be just a dream :).

smooth no government, now what? Another 3 years of waiting?

Useless country is useless.
