LONDON dec 6, 2010
Lebanon warned "Iran Telecom" was taking over the country after uncovering a secret communications network used by hezbollah two years ago, a US diplomatic source released by wikileaks.
The beirut government was shocked by the discovery on April 2008 of the extensive communications system used by the powerful shiite party, which receives military and financial support from iran, according to the source.
Lebanon passed on information about the fibre optics network-allegedly financed by tehran- to the US and Saudi arabia, and french president Nicolas sarkozy was "stunned" by the discovery according to the correspondence revealed in britain's guardian

This is nothing new. This is actually what lead to the famous government decisions on 5th of May which resulted in the mutual gun fire between Hezbullah and Future Movement on the 7th of May. It is true that Hezbullah have a telecommunications network but it's definitely not a fiber optics one, that's an exaggeration of the situation. And just like jajoja said, they had to build their own infrastructure so that they would be safe from Israel's invasion of our national telecommunication network.
I wish the government would ask for Hezbullah's assistance in laying out the fiber optics networks. I know they've got some impressive engineers and professionals who could be of much help to the ministry of telecommunications. Maybe that would speed up our access to broadband internet, don't you think? :)
GOL STILL PONDERING HOW TO REACT TO HIZBALLAH FIBER OPTIC NETWORK
--------------------------------
¶12. (S) Meanwhile, in a separate conversation on Hizballah’s progress in establishing a fiber optic network, Siniora’s senior advisor Mohammed Chatah told Charge that the network was yet another example of Hizballah’s many infringements against the state. The network could thus not be separated from Hizballah’s military activities. A GOL public accusation against Hizballah would beg the same question as to why the GOL did not remove Hizballah’s tanks, and entailed military risks for the GOL. The UNSC could not remain neutral to reports of increasing illegitimate Hizballah activities, he noted, but the GOL would have to be the one to initiate the accusation. Chatah also said there was no clear strategy within the GOL on how to approach the problem, cited some disagreement between Defense Minister Murr and Telecom Minister Hamadeh.
