I personally got the idea: simply if my salary is $500 and it is not enough then i get a salary of $1000 then the same thing happens and i want more etc.
by no means consider that the connection in lebanon is good nor sufficient just dont ask for a big limit when your connection cant follow up.
So having a limit of 100GB to a 512k bandwidth is totally rubbish.
_joe_ wroteBy relativity i'm not talking or implying that in lebanon the connection is good or enough. just keep in mind that if you have 100gb with a 20mb connection, you'll use it up as if you had an 8gb with a 512 connection, let's take the example of skype, skyping in lebanon to lebanon uses up to 'a' mb, skyping from canada to canada will use up to 'a' * some really big number, so 1 conversation in canada of 1 hour with video can be a whole lebanese quota. that's the relativity im talking about, and by no means consider that the connection in lebanon is good nor sufficient just dont ask for a big limit when your connection cant follow up.
Again, it's not only a matter of quota. I'd rather have a 20mbps connection and 8gb limit than a 512kbps connection with 1TB limit, but that's just me.
your 8gb will run out in a couple of days running on a 20mbps connection, everything will pump more, you cant possibly use that kind of connections

You're presuming i download everything i see. I'd rather have a fast connection to complete my tasks, that's about it.
Me too. I wouldn't even care so much about my crappy 1.75 gb with sodetel, if i could at least complete FTP related tasks quickly.

So far I've been waiting almost 2 goddam hours for a 1mb file to upload.
come on! here at work i have a 512 dedicated and i just uploaded a 60mb file within 45 minutes, ma tne22o :P!.

@xterm, fast connection means more activity, more youtube, more gaming, more googling and stumbling on sites, upgrades, updates and all that. once you pop, you cant stop
All I care about is good pings and better quotas to fit my online gaming needs. I dont care if i had a 512 or 20mb thats just a bonus.
But it would be more logical to have 120gigs for a 2mb connection instead of like 10 or 20gigs.

Why not upload it in 5mins instead of 45 mins ? wouldnt that give you more time to do something else and stuff ? instead of wasting 45mins of your time at work waiting for that upload.

not at all of course a faster connection is better but not to exagerate, a 1 mb file needs a couple of minutes even on a 128mbps connection mich 2 hours, agony and whining:P
joe, we're all frustrated users of crappy lebanese internet in here,

Let us dream bro, a dream of a better lebanon and a 100 mb unlimited connection with 0ms lag.

We're frustrated dammit ! We have the right to dream, to hope !

You come here telling us to be realistic, come one man.

If you've destroyed a man's hope, you've destroyed the man.
Beware dude that's an approximate of 800 users in here. You don't want that kind of blood on your hands :P

hehehe
let's just wait for the fiber optics project, a source told me that beirut is all fiber now and expanding, when done, prices are gona drop, connection will be faster due to less sharing per station, and bigger quotas will be offered due to infrastructure upgrade, the lines we have now barely handle 4 5 mb, they are old. and in 3 to 4 years to offer real ips for everyone and high speed internet and not decidated connection/shared connection w khafe2 (high speed internet was introduced in canada in 2006 so we're not that far away hehe)

May the connection lord listen to our prayers
_joe_ wrotea source told me that beirut is all fiber now and expanding
Hey Joe,

When you say Beirut, do you mean the greater region of Beirut including Achrafieh and all the suburbs including Dahieh? Or is it just Beirut as in "Solidaire"?

Same goes to Tareek Al Jdideh... :(

As for the fiber optics in Lebanon well the latency inside Lebanon will decrease drastically from 100ms to 20-30ms however thats how t should be.:(
come on people quit whining about the speed, a 1 or 2mbps is more than enough of a speed for almost any web tasking, from browsing, streaming HD youtube videos, downloading files (not torrents of course), I mean what we really need in Lebanon is the removal of the quota crap limit policy

I mean whats the use from a 100mbps fast internet if you have like 10GB quota??? the internet wont last more than 2 to 3 days because of the high speed and extremely low quota, higher speeds equals more internet
consumption...

what I mean is give me a low latency 2Mbits Down/512Kb UP without a quota limitation bullshit, its all what im asking for, I might use 2GB all the month , some other month probably like 200GB, and that shouldn't be a concern or a big deal...

My point is we need Unlimited reasonable connection not super sonic speeds with crap limits
if u give an unlimited connection to a Lebanese, he'll end up downloading movies in Pakistani or Swahili just because he finished downloading all the American movies and he has unlimited internet.
just to add, bandwidth IS expensive, Lebanon BUYS bandwidth. mech 3am yetbakhlano 3laina el jame3a.
elzalem wrotejust to add, bandwidth IS expensive, Lebanon BUYS bandwidth. mech 3am yetbakhlano 3laina el jame3a.
Um im not really sure that its true, but i read in a post somewhere in this forum that each 1GB costs the government about 0.15$. So they are really robbing us with the high prices.

Try ogero, they have a good latency when working with FTP. I just made a test, just for you, it took me less then 30 second to sync 82 files with Filezilla. No files were copied, but all 82 files were checked on the server and were all of the latest version. Fz is configured to allow 2 simultaneous transfers, it would probably go faster if I set it to more.

I can enquire as to what type of connection we have. All I know is that it is ogero DSL, And for FTP it is pretty good.
Yeah I have to say that downloading and uploading files with Ogero DSL is pretty good, it never times out or anything of this crap. Sometimes I ask my friend who has a 256K connection with Terranet and he RARELY reports back with good news...

I prefer Películas españolas, In my opinion, the internet is relative to the user, some likes more speed and low quota, other don't really care about the speed as long as they can download all they want. I personally would prefer that the ministry would offer both options to their customers.

a limited quota plan that costs less than an umlimited plan and let the people choose for themselves. As for the montreal issue, i lived there for 3 years, had unlimited plan with Bell canada and Videotron, both had unlimited and limited plans, each extra gig is $7 for a max of $30. My brother had the 20 gigs limit and he used to download like 300 gigs extra a month for an extra $30. Lets hope we would have the same here.
bigjudge wroteI personally would prefer that the ministry would offer both options to their customers.
u want unlimited, get the "cable" connection; u want speed, get anyting else... that's a start
