Hey everyone,

I've already posted this question in another section, but it's an old thread, so I'll put it here too.

I have a Macbook Pro and a Toshiba HDTV. I bought a Mini DisplayPort to DVI and a DVI to HDMI, and I connected them, I have a great picture on the Toshiba from the Mac, but I have no audio. Do I need another cable, if so what is it, and if you can attach a picture that would be great, I'll go buy one.

Thanks so much, I was so excited to get these two cables, I didn't think I needed anything else!
why all that stuff just use VGA cable and DVI is Digital Visual Interface and it doesnt carry any audio signal so you'll need an optical cable that is if your Mac supports it.
Mini displayport doesn't transmit audio. It only does video transmission.
You'll need an audio out cable from the audio port of your macbook.
you need a cable that is similar to having a headphone jack on both sides . that's a wire with two identical headphone jacks , any side hooked to the laptop and the other to the TV

a 3.5mm AUX Cable (Male to Male)

Hopefully, you'll have somewhere to plug it in your sound system.
When I bought my Imac, the seller told me that mini display port will carry audio signal when converted to HDMI, I thought it was impossible, thanks for confirming... now what if there is no audio socket ?
Thanks god this is a geek forum.

Sockets, Male to Male...

What has happened to lebgeeks!
i think all you need to do is click on playback devices and set your HDMI output as defualt playback device

it happened to me when i i was stuck trying to set it up
such a stupid thing
Mini DisplayPort to DVI and a DVI to HDMI
Mini DisplayPort to DVI : this one will convert your video + audio signal into video signal only so the dvi connector is only used for the video signals it can take up to 1080p
DVI to HDMI :the hdmi connector can take both video + audio up to 1080p
as you can see they invented only the mini display port to dvi port and not display port into hdmi so your out of luck for the audio signal what you can do is trying Samer's post :)
