many are speculating that HTML5 is the future of vids beside or competitor to flash.
Internet Explorer 9
Nothing can compete with what Flash can do... only those who are experience with Flash and AS3.0 can appreciate its potentials. Mark my words :)

Don't get too air-hot about technologies. Flash may be destroyed in 5 years. You should not put all your eggs in one basket. Perhaps HTML5, native compiled JS, WebGL can put flash to a long rest.
But so far, there are things that are better handled by flash than HTML, so it's not quitting time yet. Your expertise should transition to other technologies easily if you learn things the right way.

+1 for what arithma said. No technology is perfect, and there will always be another one to dethrone it. For instance Flash has some disadvantages, notably on alternative operating systems (linux, bsd, ...), memory consumption, browser compatibility...
Don't forget that Flash is, after all, a technology developed by Adobe for their own purposes. It cannot be a standard. It's not a coincidence that Youtube is moving away from it. Still I agree, today, there's nothing that can compete with Flash on visual rendering.
