I dont know what that is, alpha, beta, or whatever, but this is IE9...

http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/

it has HTML5 and SVG support!

PS: the download does not support anything earlier than Vista SP2
I wouldn't even bother to look at Internet Explorer... it's nothing but a piece of garbage...

You judge too quickly :)
With respect to HTML 5 – According to this wikipedia article, it seems 9.0 only added audio and video tags support. Also, Trident went from a 20/100 to a 55/100 on the Acid3 test. A decent rendering engine like WebKit has had 100/100 for quite a while now.

That's not the point, the point is IE sets the standards of what can and cannot be used on webpages.
IE was holding web designers back from using new technologies. Now that it supports HTML5 and SVG things might start to change.

Chrome and Opera 10 both score 100/100, Firefox 3.5 is at 93/1000, I'm guessing Safari shoudl be around 100 too. Yet IE still brags about its 55/100.

Sure the acid test is not the only factor when choosing a browser, but this shows how much Microsoft cars about international standards...
Do they have some obstacles like backward compatibility or something similar that is causing that or is it just pure inadequacy!
IE keep trying old M$ tactics - make incompatible with anything code, as result M$ programmers unable to write portable apps and unable to adapt even to other IDE.
No matter what they do, no matter what they support, they will NEVER measure up to Google Chrome. Period!
Actually I have read about IE9 in the Web Designer magazine, they claim it will be much better and will support more CSS3 and HTML5 and the best thing is that it is going to support CSS3 for rounded corners, this way everyone will make his rounded corners easily without any hacks nor using images :)
This is a testdrive for developers, not even the correct UI.
Ive given up on IE since Firefox 2.0

I've given up on Firefox 3 since Google Chrome.

Note: Firefox has become a memory eating monster on OS X (a lot of issues with Flash, too).
Guys, once again, the major news here is not that IE is getting better (who cares...) but that we can now write SVG knowing that it will be rendered in all browsers, even grandpa and grandma's browsers... eventually (after a few years)
A whooping 55/100 on Acid3 test!

Same here. Actually Firebug is the only reason why Firefox is still worth anything.
I have to try out chrome, FF is eating up my memory too, I wont lose anything plus I need it for testing anyways.
