Hey... What do you guys think about the new All-In-One desktop computers? I've checked out the L series from Sony Vaio (which is expensive as usual lol) and the ones from HP... the HP TouchSmart 600 Quad looks interesting. It's price is 1700$ though so definitely not gonna buy it yet. Hopefully its price would drop until July cuz I need to change my HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop.

But it's not... a Mac!Kassem wrotehmmm interesting, but the Quad 600 actually has an Intel i7 Quad Core with an nVidia GeForce GT230M and 23" TouchSmart LCD screen which is much better than what the iMac offers for the same price...
Honestly, I do not know which is better, I never tried a Mac before but from what I've heard, it's preferred by graphic designers and 3D animators... The whole issue is controversial. Some might claim that working with a Mac is better for the productivity of the work, but personally I would say it doesn't have anything to do with productivity, it's all about the designer/developer/animator and his knowledge and skills regardless of what machine he/she is using.
You're seriously recommending an iMac?
Get a PC, an upgradeable one and avoid vendor lock in.
iMac is for graphic design firms that can't afford having ugly PC's lying around.. even then it's questionable.

I like the iMac's screen... pretty good hardware there...

hmmm... that's interesting! I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 an Intel Core 2 Due T5300 @ 1.73 GHz, NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600, 3GB DDR2... is that good enough to install a Mac OS? I really like the toolbar on the bottom with the "fish-eye" effect...
Kassem:
Not all Laptops do support a MAC OS installation. Especially not the "Snow Leopard" and that is due to many reasons. Initially you could stard with your BIOS support of virtualization, and that is you'd like to install the MAC OS on VMware, quite plausible, but unfortunately not 100% compatible. Secondly, there's an ISO image available on some torrent websites, which makes it quite possible to dual-boot your Laptop, but again, it isn't quite compatible. You might face few no-solutions problems.
Having said that, and after some experience using three major OS [Microsoft Windows, MAC OS, and Linux (Diferent Versions) ] Microsoft Windows top them all, from many, various points. MAC OS is just Linux with a good GUI, all the rest is just humbug.

Thanks for the input Mitzidupree :) Obviously that's gonna cause some trouble and I can't be bothered going through this. I'm glad with my Vista OS, I just wanted to try MAC OS out, that's all... Thanks again :)
Back to the topic people... what do you think about the new All-In-One desktop computers? Any of you tried one out yet?

I am waiting for the vaio L series to introduce the core I7 with their new models ( been waiting since 8 months and have no idea if it's gonna happen, but if it does I am ready to even spend 3000$ on it. it is absolutely gorgeous )
yup, I have to agree Kareem :)
I'll close my tabs on this thread by saying when style is given more value than function (or budget) you've fallen the technical geek bandwagon, and if you give a hoot, become a disappointment to our community.
Closing with a melodramatic scene, don't react, just having fun..

i am about to make my life's biggest mistake by purchasing the IMAC core i5 27" desktop.
It is going to cost around 2680$+vat.
Anybody knows how I can install windows7 on it? Does it overwrite the MBR? does it dual boot? should I need to do anything before going nuts ? hello ??
This is an urgent question please !!
You're saying it's the biggest mistake so why are you doing it?! Just get a PC that has Windows 7 pre-installed and i7 quad core. 2 weeks ago I was at Sbeity Computers, I saw a list of very powerful computer specs for only 1300$ and when I say powerful, I mean almost the best you can get at the moment.
I need a PC with core i7 930, very decent graphic card, 6GB RAM, good MB for overclocking, thermaltake case, good silent power supply, glossy LCD
Budget ~ 2000-2500$ including VAT . any good deal?
Tried PCandparts but the customization ended up with 3150$ and most of the parts are N/A.
I need to get a PC ASAP! thanks!!

It will either have a neutral outcome or be the best thing you've even done.Kareem wrotei am about to make my life's biggest mistake by purchasing the IMAC core i5 27" desktop.

As for getting Windows 7, you can easily install via Boot Camp.

Macbook runs Vista and XP (didnt try 7 on it), but XP is better due to better drivers.Kareem wrotei am about to make my life's biggest mistake by purchasing the IMAC core i5 27" desktop.

Bootcamp usually takes care of the partitioning issues and such, it's not a hassle.
You should google for more technical answers.
I would buy an iMac if I was rich... :) but I stick to my old PC workstation now, which is not so bad... You just get more performance for the same price, for raw processing apps. But if you dont need raw power, you might be happy with OSX.
PS: If you're buying a mac to run windows as your primary OS on it... Forget it, unless you're prepared to pay all that for the looks.
And that is a very, very good thing.Mitzidupree wroteMAC OS is just Linux with a good GUI
Plus a bunch of industry-standard commercial apps support OSX but not Linux.
Can i just remove the mac os and install windows7 ? Like if I need to replace the HDD with an SSD drive, can I just format it and install anything I want? or some limitation in the BIOS ? sorry but my first apple experience ( not even iphone/ipod etc..)
