Thanks all for posting here are some facts and notes for your posts:
1 be sure that a war will happen its not neccesary in the near future but it will happen and it wont be on lebanon alone
2 i am not talking about the resistance network becuase such network is unbreakble by isreal for to reasons (copper wired and fiber optic \directed [linear] RF transmision)
3 i am not a millitary or network expert but i know some facts about isreali jammers \there are two types of jammers a small one of abou 2000 watt transmision can be helld on any UAV ex m ca
And a super large one with much higher power held either by c 130 modidied herculies [awax] or by a helliem ballon \isreal jammed the resistanse radio channel last war [eza3at al nour] it also transmited its own signals on that wave it also jammed al manar tv in the south
4satalte uplinks are illigle except for live tv transmision and in war there is nothing illigal or legal [no dawle]heheh and i didnt mean to supply all lebanon but i know that we have a lot of spare uplinks for tv channls which can be used for minimum upload requirements and for download dont worry there are plenty of illigal networks with down capabilties even better than Og>ro it self
5 i didnt want to open a political disscusion i just wanted to see of there are any backup plan for nextwar
6 we need internet during war for one purpose only which is showing the world what is realy happening and i think you all agree with me that NO one is seeimg the 100% real picture of what is happening
When i Just remember those sad days during july war i was walking with the cermony of chiah masscre there was a father carying his 1 year old burned child and cruying we were going to burry the dead people in 3 load 13 each al jazeera tv wass there it wass hot and confusing i was only 14 and half and i saw the white sacs contianig the bodies of all sizes once the funreal started isreali bombed a bulding 200 m away (dstroyed from the begining of the war) the people throw the bodies away and started to run i saw majeeda abed al samed[al jazeera reporter](yemken heek esma ma ba3erfe )runnig away and the camera man with her away to the transmission truck but i didnt run i wass walking the best of what i saw is a crayzy man named karaki he wass making strange moves i asked him what are you doing? he said i am a plane bombing hehehe
P.S i have my math final exam tommorow i havent slept for 2 days so you may see spelling and grammer tahawaje kteeer hehehe

nice topic and of course internet plays a very important role in resistance/revolution movements we can witness this in iran right now, their government itself can't stop it and i don't think anyone can stop the internet. Its one of the most powerful weapons imo. sad story about the war man goodluck in ur exam tomorrow!

how can you be sure? and if you're just saying that eventually, from now to 1 million years it will eventually happen, then mayybe we should also start thinking about what we'll do when usa and china will go to war and china will start nuking all those sattelites. i'll get totally lost without my gps...

you CAN eavesdrop on copper wires without directly having access to the cable itself. all you need is measure the magnetic field AROUND the cable generated by the current flowing in it.

Internet was originally an experiment to create a network that can survive a nuclear attack in the USA.
The internet by design is very resistant, the problem is that Ogero with their monopolistic approach created a "Single point of failure", namely their connection to the backbone. There is no need to "be ready for a war", the internet was designed and created for that purpose :) the only thing that needs to be done is to loosen the regulation so that it can develop the way it is meant to be.
@Abbabj, without getting into politics, you can be sure as much as you want that a war will happen, but you can also be sure that I am not listening to you on that point, mostly because you did not give me any arguments:) Of course the country has to prepare for war, that is what the army is there for, with its huge budget. But whether this war will happen or not, only God knows.

@rolf
its more then obvious we should expect a war is the near future.. earth is over populated and wars keep the balance imo and from what we are hearing in the news happened before.. and what history teached us is that threats don't remain threats for a long time
sorry for deviating from the orginal topic once again hehe
ps: why doesn't lebgeeks have a politics section?
belal
ps: why doesn't lebgeeks have a politics section?
We don't need that crap,dude.
The Lebanese citizens are born into sectarianism and that shit...Neither you nor i are going to change that...
so lets avoid discussing the political Lebanese childish-whining game.
samer
ps: why doesn't lebgeeks have a politics section?
We will never have a politics section. Not only will it initiate flamewars, it will also create sides and eventually feuds. If you want your dose of politics, 90% of other Lebanese forums do just that :)
arithma
For those inclined, you may pursue politic theory in this forum which I doubt will be frowned upon. Just don't show sides I guess. --- It's me just saying, not sure what Samer thinks about it.

I agree, when I see people's opinions related to lebanese politics posted online, sometimes "bye3la daghte", so if you want to talk politics, please do it carefully. Thanks :)

So all what we can do as Lebgeeks is to prepare for what is coming wither it comes or not by putting plans just in case and when the war occurs to post as much as we can of pictures and videos with enormous tags

i don't think the problem in the situation of a war is that ogero is in control, it's not what makes it a single point of failure. i'm not saying that not having competition and having monopole is not a bad thing, but not in THIS situation. what i mean to say is that even if ogero has the monopole over the international bandwidth, if they had access to a cable from beirut, another one from tripoly and a 3rd one for saida, there wouldn't be a single point of failure anymore. From a redundancy point of view, if it's ogero having access to these 3 cables, or 3 or 10 different companies, from a redundancy point of view, it's the same thing.
and even if you have access to just 1 cable but that 100 companies have access to this single cable, if you cut that cable, the 100 companies are all down. having multiple companies having access to the same international link doesn't create redundancy in this specific case (it does though in other scenarios, but not in a war one).

I think the topic is relevant. More than anyone I would hate to see our beloved lebgeeks turn political, but Abbabbj's post is about internet situation in Lebanon. The war threat is real. It might not be imminent, it might never happen for all I know, but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared.
As battikh pointed out, our biggest weakness is having a single access point. Monopoly isn't the issue here (but it is, in so many other ways). Now how can the info be relayed to authorities?
PS: Mountada means forum, right? I learned something today ...
Aj_BlaZ
didn't you guyz heard of having internet connection using arabsat or orbit and such ... i think that's the only solution for us
Padre
lol Arabsat and the lot will NOT help you, since u still need an upload connection. at least for the common of the mortals ;)
Aj_BlaZ
explain more :S
J4D
Aj_BlaZ is right , orbit offers a v-sat connection besides there cable television .

actually satellite internet is very effective but it need s an up-link which is illegal and hard to afford in Lebanon and as i toled you we wont ever face a download problem since in any situation for about 500$ a month registration and a satellite dish and digital satellite modem or skystar dvb receiver(\usb or pci express) you can get a 512 KB down connection i think most of these channels are on Amos n.b. they are not very good since they don't offer a brute encyreption so anyone with sat dish and receiver can get your data its actually called random download(downloading files other people requested )it is very popular in Syria as i know
