In my earlier post, i was asking a few questions about the PS3 console which i am still reluctant to buy. I still dont know if i should buy a PC or a PS3.

My usage priorities would be:
70% gaming (including online)
20% internet browsing
10% dvd

Now as far sa i know the PS3 Slim in Lebanon costs around 500$ since its only available in 250gb. Since i have been a PC gamer for a long time, i beleive i would find it difficult to get used to the game controllers so i would have to look for alternates like a fragnstein http://playstationlifestyle.net/2009/09/11/ps3-review-fragnstein/ (70$) which are not found in Lebanon i guess. I am also not sure if those would be reliable and would resemble the mouse/keyboard input. Also i think it would be necesary to buy a headset, wireless keyboard & remote (all around 150$). So the total cost would be in the range of 700$.

A gaming PC (exluding tv which i already have) would be in the range of 800$

What do you think?
Yo, you want mine? It's one year old and I'm selling it with 6 games and it has a HDD of 280Gb. Want it? Offer price. I want to get rid of this thing ASAP!
if you want to buy a Gaming PC i recommend these specs, don't go any lower than that.

CPU
Intel Q9650 @3GHz 1333MHz/12M (the best value for gaming these days dk its current price but it was ~ 250$ - 280$
Motherboard
Asus P5Q3 ~ 163$
RAM
I preffer getting OCZ but I don't know where i can find these in Lebanon :P so you go to 1X 1GB DDR3 RAM ~ 31$ and 1X 2GB DDR3 RAM ~ 50$ so you will have 3GB DDR3 RAM , more than enough for games.
VGA
some ATI HD4870 ~ 263$ or Geforce GTX260 ~ 233$
HDD
Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM ~ 90$
Power Supply
it should be more than 500W , if you want to go SLI or crossfire you will need more
Thermaltake W0294RE Litepower 500W ~ 135$ or Point of View Black Diamond 500W ~ 80$
Case
ThermalTake VI1000BWS M9 Black/win ~ 129$
DVD
Just any DVD :P

it will cost ~ 1100$
This is the minimum you should get, you want at least your PC to play Games at high res and high Quality for 2 years, remember that now it is a stable period in the gaming industry means that the requirements will be steady almost the same for every game, the maximum is Crysis but in 2 or 3 years , there will be a major change due to new consoles (PS4 and new Xbox) so it will be the 2005-2007 period all over again.
Note that i did not include any sound card cause you can use the internal one.
for mouse and keyborad, pay a bit an get gaming ones, i have a Rasor mouse and the Logitech G11 gaming keyboard

And this Computer has a bigg issue cause its motherboard is LGA775 this mean no CPU above the Q9550 can be installed. I always prefer to get the best motherboard so i can upgrade in the future, is you can you should get a LGA1366 motherboard and put the lowest i7 core CPU but the price will go high.
I Chose those VGA's cause they have a HDMI port, link the DVI por to any screen and the HDMI to a HD tv and experience HD gaming.

Gaming PC is costy but PC gaming has better graphics that consoles. and for sure better internet browsing

The PS3 will be much cheaper in that case not to forget the PS3 exclusives and the Console exclusives you don't have to worry about 360 Exclusives cause most of them are on PC too ! (Mass Effect, Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, ...)
PS3 will be better when it comes to DVD playback only if you want to get Blue Ray DVD's if you get the shitty 1000LL DVD's than not worth getting a ps3 for that reason

You don't need cores clocked at over 3GHz. Very few games use multiple cores, so it would be a waste of money. If you must get quad core, get some of the cheaper ones that operate at 2.4 or 2.6 GHz. Saves money that you can put into an HD screen! :)
well try playing GTA 4 at max or The saboteur at max with other than a quad core, the i would prefer the Q6600 but it is discontinued so this why Q9550 is good now
Plus some future games will require more CPU power and I am talking about R.U.S.E (Ubisoft said they will include some extra stuff for high CPU's) and probably AC II

Open world games are not playable anymore on Core 2 Duo CPU's. Low end quad cores will run the game at medium settings, My friend has a Q6600 and he plays GTA4 on medium but when we turned it on max it was awesome and it made him upgrade his CPU cause with the Q6600 we noticed a big FPS downfall.

The problem in PC gaming is that if you are addicted you can't play a game of medium or low setting, you always wanna max it out (except Crysis, will cost you 10000$)

Haha, exactly.

Crap. I was thinking of upgrading my PC this week right after I sell my PS3. I already have the GTX 260 on the list, but I was hoping I could use my remaining money to get an HD screen. :(

Should I get a new processor instead of the screen? I have the Q6600.
it depends on your motherboard.

CPU power has little job when it comes to resolution, the GPU takes that part but you will use the CPU when there are lots of stuff to load on screen (that's explain its need in open world games) and when the game uses high quality textures (GTA case).
Just see if GTA 4 is playable on your system in a good way (it is the max game that need CPU power now) than you are good, and wait for i7 and LGA1366 boards get more cheaper.
Plus you should consider checking the i5 core or AMD CPU's , i5 are between quad cores and i7 and they are budget ones, while with AMD you can get an equivalent intel CPU for a lower price most of the time .

I am 90% sure that upgrading your CPU will require a motherboard change (if you tell me your board name i can me 100% sure) , and going form a quad to a quad and change the board at the same time is not worth it .

The model is the SG45H7 Shuttle PC and the motherboard is the FG45. It's fairly new and receptive to dual and quad core upgrades.
Advanced, thanks for the info. Was browsing pcandparts today for prices. Well im no sure if the gtx260 has an HDMI port. I think i will need to use a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to my fullhd samsung 32" tv (has 3 HDMI ports) and im also not sure if this conversion would weaken the HD experience. Correct me if im wrong.

btw i already have another rig at my other place which runs intel micro board lga775, q6600 & gtx8800 w/ 4gb 800 ram. That pc, although 2 years old, still plays games so smoothly at almost max graphics. mw2 @ almost 55fps maxed, good enough for me.

Now i know that the pc would give better gaming experience and as i said i have been used to pc gaming for 15 years, but on the second hand i would like to have the ps3 & save some money. The major issue for me is that i am horrible with controllers..So it would be a must for me to add-on to the ps3 with the accessories i already mentioned earlier.

never thought this decision would be so tough
SPIDF from onboard audio to gtx260 and DVI to HDMIT to TV would enable HD audio/video, right?
A gaming PC is much cheaper in the long run. The games are much cheaper, both pirated and not pirated. On the PS3, for every game, you're going to end up paying a minimum of $50. That's why I'm selling mine. That thing DRAINED my wallet.
ali_m3 wroteSPIDF from onboard audio to gtx260 and DVI to HDMIT to TV would enable HD audio/video, right?
yeah sure HDMI will enable audio

and @tako do you really have that box ? is it that quiet as they did put in the net ? and yeah you can upgrade into other Quad cores but i don't think it is worth it; just get an HD screen or forget the HD screen get some fancy accessories like the G25 racing wheel :p if your into racing games

Yep, hehe. It's really quiet. I was thinking of spending my $500 on the GTX 260, HD screen, and Windows 7. I hope they all add up to 500...

Oh any screen, honestly. And the size can be average. I don't want anything big. I just want HD. But of course I don't want a screen smaller than the average screen.
A PC is wayyyyy better than consoles in terms of graphics. However, console game libraries are expanding a lot more than PC game libraries due to several factors (No time to mention them now).

In the end, it depends on your taste. If you're more a FPS or RTS person, you should get a PC. (Don't expect to play Command & Conquer or Total War on the PS3).
On the other hand, if you're more into exclusive consoles games like God Of War, Uncharted and sports games like Grand Turismo 5, the PS3 is your call.

But bear one important thing in mind, you can get pirated PC games for a very cheap. PS3 games, on the hand, cost at least 70$ each.

Your call.
Btw, have you considered an Xbox 360? It's cheaper than a PS3, and can play pirated games. And 90% of games get released on both the 360 and the PS3.
Oh, and 360 graphics are as good, if not better, than the PS3.
sin wroteOh, and 360 graphics are as good, if not better, than the PS3.
Are you joking? It's now common knowledge the the PS3 is superior to the 360. The PS3 has had to lower its graphics standards on some games just because the game was created on the 360 and then ported over to the PS3. Have you tried Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2? You can't play that on a 360, hands down. All the Xbox exclusives would work even BETTER on the PS3 if the game developers spent enough time developing (not porting) it on the PS3. The 360's superiority is gone. Stop arguing about it.

But on top of both of them is the PC. No question about it.

I'm no fanboy, I've always been a proud PS and PS2 owner. But let's not hide behind our fingers just because Xbox is manufactured by the evil money-loving Micro$oft.

I have seen Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 and they are both good looking them. But I can't see how they look better than say, Gears Of War 2.

Even the non-exclusive Modern Warfare 2 looks better than Killzone 2. And the 360 graphics look slightly crispier, especially when it comes to shadows.
