So I have a thomson tg585 v7 and I'm with IDM but for some reason I cant open a port for utorrent , I mean I tried everything but nothing seems to work , so if someone knows how to open a port with this modem can he please help me.
opening port for utorrent ?
I am with IDM too and I have a Thomson 585 and I once tried to make a port forward for an online game, I followed an exact tutorial made on a modem like mine and finally when I use the any "Port checker" it reported a failure, Why ? because of the IDM infrastructure, Firewalls, Nat .....
But if you think you have done something wrong or you improvised it yourself, follow this Tutorial :
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Thomson-Alcatel/TG585v7/Utorrent.htm

Thats the problem because I did everything right but when i checked using a port checker It also reported a failure
This is the same thing I mentioned to someone I know who has an IDM connection. You are on a NAT before accessing your router. Just my 2 cents...
Well Is there any solution ??
I had the same problem with several applications including utorrent, as well as hosting games.
This is one of the major problems I face with IDM.
I contacted them a while ago, they said:
Hope this helps.

There is no solution other than changing to Terranet for example, they provide a real IP."The only solution is to buy your own IP which is only available for 512k and up and costs $150 per month."
Hope this helps.

Yes, there is a solution. I was searching around all the forums and someone helped me out with the whole NAT thing. I was able to go from NAT type 3 connection to a NAT type 2 connection (more open).
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, you need to know your IDM username and password. If you don't know your username and password, don't attempt the steps below.
What you need to do is the following:
- Connect your modem to your computer (wired or wirelessly).
- Access the modem configuration interface by typing in the URL space 192.168.1.254 (this is for my Speedtouch, your modem should have something similar).
- Search around the interface and you should be able to find a clickable item stating "Set up". Or you could search for something that allows you to manually setup the modem.
- During the setup, you should configure your modem to run in "Bridge Mode".
- Then at your computer, you should connect through a PPPoE connection by using your IDM username and password (I'm not familiar with Windows environment when it comes to networking, I can help with a Mac).
- Then you should be able to connect with a more open NAT, meaning more open ports.
NOW, this will not ensure that it'll open the ports needed for your utorrent. You may already be on NAT type 2 connection, which in case, you're out of luck because the IDM infrastructure is put in such a way that it doesn't allow for port forwarding. I have tried a billion times to forward ports but nothing ever happens after doing the necessary steps. However, you could try it and see what happens.
One disadvantage with this is that, your computer will the sole user the internet connection, since its the one which is signing on with the network. So nothing else will be able to use the internet connection.
If it works, you could always get back to your original configuration by running the setup again and selecting Routed PPP and entering the username and password.
Hope this helps

I guess i might try that because switching isp's is not an option for me right nowelchebib wroteYes, there is a solution. I was searching around all the forums and someone helped me out with the whole NAT thing. I was able to go from NAT type 3 connection to a NAT type 2 connection (more open).

Hey elchebib, can you share the youtube link we found it during our conversation in the orange room as I cant find it anymore as I am not at work.elchebib wroteYes, there is a solution. For all the other guys, the video above is specifically done for the PS3; however, it can be adapted for any other device.

There's no need to try, but thanks for sharing. I had a looooooong discussion with the IDM support. This was one of the proposed suggestions too. It failed. The support staff is dumb, mish 3arfin 7alon w mish 3arfin l connection taba3on kif mechie.... I kept calling them la7atta they forwarded me to someone important who told me about the fake IP thing that I already mentioned in the previous post. And he said there's no solution but to buy a real IP.elchebib wroteYes, there is a solution. I was searching around all the forums and someone helped me out with the whole NAT thing. In fact, it's not the modem that is blocking the connections. In utorrent, you forward the port in order for others to connect to you, but IDM won't allow you for the reason i mentioned in my previous post.
However, utorrent will still work fine, because you will connect to peers instead of them connecting to you.
Cheers,
Chadi.
You can open a port from your own workstation. Lets say you have netcat.
Start listening on the utorrent port.
nc -l -p {port number}
This will keep the port open as long as the program is running.
Unless you have access to your router.
Go to CMD : Type ipconfig :
Than copy the default gateway and post it in your browser.
Put in your username and password and than There should be something called : Port forwarding. Look for it and enter the application name and port and thats all...

thanks for the reply but the problem is that even when I forward my port through my router correctly , my Port checker still gives me a failure , Oh and elchebib way didn't work , so I guess the problem is from IDM .Moudi wroteUnless you have access to your router.

Even if you forward the port, behind the modem there is another NAT so you can do nothing about it. You are on a private network managed by IDM. Either you ask them to unblock the ports or change ISP.mk555 wrotethanks for the reply but the problem is that even when I forward my port through my router correctly , my Port checker still gives me a failure , Oh and elchebib way didn't work , so I guess the problem is from IDM .Moudi wroteUnless you have access to your router.
