rolf wrotefacebook is good for events and being contacte by old friends or people who only know your name. Because of that, it does NOT suck, there are people I met through facebook, and events I attemded thanks to facebook.
That's what Facebook was made for, and it's very good at it.
rolf wroteIt also has some value for artists to spread their work.
Then it has minimal entertainment value (funny videos)
I see your point, but it's become extreme. Facebook has become
The Internet in Lebanon. I emailed a friend a week ago, and I ask her today, didn't you read my email? And she says huh? I didn't get any messages. Turns out she doesn't even bother checking her email anymore. She assumed I sent her a Facebook message.
There are plenty of specialised websites for things such as art promotion, checking out fun stuff, or sharing photos. What I mean is, this is keeping people around here from learning a bit and becoming more experienced with the WWW.
One thing I do love about Facebook (and pretty much the only reason I log in) is the Marketplace. I've sold and bought quite a few things through there. Very useful.
Totally agree with you on the status and photo addicts. No wonder it's such a big hit in Lebanon: it suits the "check me out" and "did you check him/her out" mentalities very well.
