Science Fair: "Ayyam Al 3oloom"

ayyam al 3oloom science fair (university projects) opens its doors today at 3 PM i and my lebgeeks friend ayman farhat will be there to check it out and stuff and we will take pixx if you care to join us the event is held in (midan saba2 il kheil) . or if you want to make a full lebgeeks presence the fair is still open for 4 more days if you want us to gather there or something im just brainstorming here :D i will be glad to see some of you there today

ohh and ill try to promote this site among the geeks there :)

we will be wandering there but we will gather at the saba2 il kheil gate at 3:00 pm . and yes i guess there are nice things in robotics w hek . university science projects :) in case you wanted to go and couldn't find us give me a ring on 707****9 and we will gather somewhere there .

Well it was not bad but my expectations were much bigger. There is stuff that is nice while some stuff is useless IMO. In addition the Lebanese public interest seems very low to such exhibitions. The AUST stand, the LU stand and the one about the blind helper were the best in my opinion. The stand for the joumhour school was nice too but it was very obvious that it is the work of the teachers and not the students ;) Furthermore the stand for the LIU University is an epic lol * Refer to the milk bottle in the pics :P

Anyways, in general it was okay, I advise everyone to go and check it out but don't expect to find big things nor to find the whole Lebanese Geeks Community there as I did :P

Finally, it was nice meeting you Jad :)

Note: In case you guys whish to go another time to the fair as a group I will be more than happy to go if I have time :)

Could you please tell me more about the first picture with the Intel logo in the background and the product in front of the guy?

Also, I would like to know more about the solar products. Renewable energy is going to be the next "big thing". I would really apreciate some more info on it.

you are welcome it was our pleasure . the first pic is a student from hariri school with a blind ppl helper it sounds an alarm when it nears an object or something . ayman and i quickly analyzed the THING , the sensors are standard END-USER car sensors and an ultra sound kit from katranji . all in all big help was used from instructors and even engineers . in some cases were that the student or someone did not know anything about his project except explaining about the on off button !! . there was a stand also about the lego mindstorms , i wanted to talk(bahdil) the instructor there but she was talking on the phone :D Xsever i will dedicate later a special post for renewable energy . i dont really have the energy now to discuss such a beautiful subject :)

as for renewable energy, i think we're starting to get there in lebanon. a friend (initially has a generators/ups company) got the deal for a 0 emission building in beirut. they have pretty cool stuff available as options...

actually ya batikh we tried to go into details but the two girls presenting the h2 were stupid . i told her khtosre il mawdoo3 because we know how they work ma idrit because 7afzeton 7ofoz :P but i guess they generate about 3.5 V for a constant 500 MA which is more than enough to drive a small dc motor/ load . the AUST guys (where i study also) who did the rover were not there they were ether sleeping , partying , had a class , or simply did not know about the event :P . the zero emissions subject is nice and im planing to go into details with it in a separate post. and i guess it would be a juicy subject with grand interest :)

but for the technologies they might be using, it's stuff already available in the market, they're not re-inventing the wheel
so basically combination of solar panels, wind turbines, and... what is it called? like a half sphere of mirror that focuses all the light to a single point. this point is on a kind of piston. 1 side of the piston heats, second stays cold, which causes the piston to move and generating current.

thats a sterling engine ( in your case a solar one ) super-cool design but impractical ,MSI used them on computer possessors to power up the cooling fan from the heat generated from the cpu but the fan would not run for long since all the thing would become heated and the principle of hot and cold will be gone then :) .
