Wow, I would give them a piece of my mind. Really, because they sound brainless. I definitely couldn't control my anger in a situation like that.
lol i had a similiar story , my friend called me and said that the computer isnt working and he cant do anything with it and its freezing all the time ,
so i went to his house and the mouce cable was unplugged :D

Just bill them:
- Phone support: $20
- Minimum visit fee for Baalback: $40
- Machine diagnosis and problem assessment: $20
- Restoring faulty electrical connection: $60

TOTAL: $140
TVA: $14
GR.TOTAL $154

Here :-)

Seriously though, it is also the job of support to make sure the machine is plugged in before actually going there, but there is a limit to what support should check... like is the power button on? Is the machine plugged in? Is the electrical outlet working? Can you bring a voltmeter and check it (along with explaining how to use the voltmeter)? Is there electricity? etc... so you see the customer has to provide the minimum, but it's a lesson for the support team too, next time they'll ask if it's plugged in. And the customer, well if you bill them a nice big bill every time you go, it will "encourage" them to be more attentive.

Sorry for reviving an old topic but this is interesting or sad:
There is an IT student in my class explaining during an MIS session what is the difference between Dual Core and Core 2 Duo. The difference was that Dual Core means 2 Motherboards working together while Core 2 Duo is 2 CPUs working together.
Oh dear.

Would be fun to know his interpretation of the difference between a process and a thread, then!
I heard some guy while walking in AUB ask another guy where he could download RAM from because his computer said it needed more RAM.

Did you tell him that putting 7 motherboards together for the i7 made the computer too hot, so they opted instead to put 5 motherboards and 2 CPU's?
Btw the Doc was listening to him but didnt reply anything as if a bee passed by.

The terminal is known as "the black box" :). My girlfriend (ex?) calls it "the black box with the turtle" because when she was at school they once did a class of logo programming and had a turtle walk around the terminal, I think.
Looooool @rolf logo writer FTW !!!

Yup, I've taken the Logo thingy as well. That was the most stupid thing I've done on a PC. My brother (who goes to the same school I used to go to) is now taking Logo in his informatics class. I think it's about time they grow up and stop giving this subject in schools.
I don't agree, logo is a nice simple language for kids to have an intro to programming in a fun way IMO. I used to study it at school and I really used to enjoy making shapes and animations with it. It would be hard for grade 7 students to grasp some real programming concepts and maybe even run their code on the command line, they would enjoy more seeing something graphical in front of them. For students higher than grade 7 or so it would be better to start teaching them another language though of course, i.e. something useful.

I copied and pasted this from gtalk chat with someone and edited out the time/date and fixed some spelling/grammar for readability.

Someone: my laptop overheated today and locked up. I had to press the power button to turn it off
Hussam: I don't have a laptop but I know you can get cooling pads which should help.
Someone: Ok I will check the place where I bought the laptop. Also when I restarted the computer, it did a disk check and found 50 bad sectors. There weren't any when I last did a disk check.
Hussam: Sorry to hear that. Perhaps you should back up your files. The ones in your my documents folder.
Someone: I'll just back up the ones on my desktop. The files in my documents are safe.
Hussam: why?
Someone: I was told the Desktop folder disappears first when the hard disk goes bad.
Hussam: Who told you that? it's not true. Whichever files existed on the bad sectors will get corrupted regardless of the name of the folder.
Someone: I'm 100% sure the Desktop folder goes first. The guy in computer lab at university told me so.
my friend asked me this yesterday:
"hey, is a 50 inch tv big?"
yes, those where his exact words :O
