the link was partially used by ISPs who provide internet to the presidential palace, lebanese army, some army generals, and other key people in lebanon...
and you should know that we often don't follow security policies, and that even if we do and encrypt our data, with the proper equipment, you can decrypt it.
and for israel, important data is not just top secret things, simply knowing the location of certain people can be important enough for them...

Not very, but sensitive data (logistics for example), where electronic communication used, government agencies use VPN, and if e-mail - tech similar to PGP. If it is possible, they do it not over public network, they order dedicated P2P connection. (Let's say few lambda in fiber)

i guess what you described does not happen in lebanon for example nasser kandil is on facebook and on gmail and i have him always online on both as a matter of fact he is online now ! would you like me to ask him ? :P

you have got a point but still we all are monitored regardless ;) you know from a while ago UNIFIL in the south had two telephone lines one israeli and one Lebanese , and of course both were connected to the same " central " and israel was able to hack into the Lebanese telephone network thru this . it was later discovered by unifil .

Internet wise, there is nothing really blocked. Facebook, msn and p2p softwares work. But again you are monitored if you abuse the bandwidth.

But sometimes my lunch break exceeds 1 hour.. I think I should work on it.
