I constantly find myself alternating between Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4 under OS X.
I switch to Safari whenever Firefox starts to take too much CPU/RAM.
Marty
Firefox, though when I find a good enough adblocking addon for Safari I will use it instead, much faster.
rolf
im back to firefox. Chrome uses much cpu and causes my laptop to heat.
The thing with chrome is that because of its process system, you cant really know how much cpu it is using, because it is no single, persistent process. but i know it uses considerably more then firefox. I even wonder if the whole separate process thingie is not a cover to hide cpu usage... But maybe im being paranoid...
If only firefox looked and felt as good as chrome, id have no reason to look elsewhere. but i saw ff3.5, it is still the same old interface/buttons... it was good at a time (like 2 years ago), but now, compared to safari, chrome... even IE looks better...

If you want the look and feel of chrome on your firefox then check out the chromifox theme which is an addon that will make your firefox look like chrome, i recommend you check it out, good luck and enjoy! :)

Hey rolf.
Do you about the pipelining tweaks and the nglayout delay tweaks in about:config for Firefox?
Those things triple speed for me. Let me know if you do not know about them.
rolf
i know about pipelining, but not about nglayout... what am i supposed to do?
Xsever
Go into about:config, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
Try it and tell me about the difference. Big difference for me. Never wait for a page to load.

Yep, it does feel faster.
Thats cool :) thanks.

No problem man.
You can also go to about:config and change the value of layout.spellcheckDefault to 2.
This will mean Firefox will spell anything you write.

I wish I never upgraded to firefox 3.5. The permanent tab bar is annoying!
Xsever
Hey Marty,
Could you be more specific. Maybe I can find a fix for you.
Marty
Well in the old version of firefox the tab bar wasn't there when there was only one tab, now it's there all the time.
proners
about:config -> browser.tabs.autohide -> true
Marty
Thanks for that! I wonder why it isn't in the preferences... hmm...

Hahaha, 20 replies with noone even mentioning Internet Explorer =D . As for me, I constantly switch between chrome and firefox. I noticed that many of you know well about FF, so if you can help me out, i'll much appreciate it. heres the thing, when i access facebook or gmail or whatever website that requires logging in on firefox, i always get the login page, even though i click on the Remember Me or Login in Directly check box ! now the good thing is that it stores my password, not having to write it again, but i do have to keep logging everytime. now another thing, facebook doesnt seem to work normally. when flipping through the photos of an album, it keeps on loading, not going to the next page..... plus, when ignoring or accepting a request of any type, it doesnt click !!! help me please =) i dont have any kind of trouble described above with chrome !
oh and btw, i sometimes use safari when my firefox gets "stubborn" on OS X
