Discovery science - future weapons
it was all weekend ... anyone watched ?

i was trying to watch as much as possible between other ppl wanting to watch something else... ppl coming, the beach and friends

but for the stuff i watched... it makes you go :o
and they describe the weapons as cool and wow ... i am like wtf !

for example i watched about the moab .... the missiles that explode once inside the buildings... the really long range snippers... lazer/electricity weapons... the mines digger
and with all those weapons around... it makes you think... what the hell ! all the conflicts in the world should be won over !

so who watched... any thoughts on the subjects ?
nothing beats a bunch of katioushas :D
seriously, can any of these stop katioushas?
Maybe they have anti missile systems, but the cost of these is very high... and price is also of big importance in wars...
Anyway... I didnt watch it but one military technology I was impressed with is nano waves (i think its called this way... if i didnt forgot) or something waves, its some sort of radio waves that lets soldiers look through walls and inside buildings.
I think the military technological progress was at its peak during WW2 and then the cold war, then it went downhill and became outright ridiculous, like that stealth fighter that costs over 1 billion dollars to build yet is detectable with old radar technologies (they discovered that later...)
rolf - easily can be beaten. Some weapons just won't be published. Some - will be used as last case.
For example virus that cause high mortality rate for owners of specific nation gene (reality).
Passive radar systems, that can be done by ur own TV antenna, poweful GPU (for parallel FFT conversions) and opensource software. :-)

Or autonomous UAV, that decide on himself what target to hit, faster than human. I'm sure few countries working on predictive systems that will hit katyusha before launch and system which will detect humans who carry weapon.
It is actually possible, but i dont want even talk about how, small chance, because maybe it will give them ideas. I hope they wont find anything reliable, so it will be "hold factor" against new war.
Katyushas suck badly.

We had some of these ZiL151 Katyusha mobile launchers at army. The army almost never dared to use these during the exercises as they are unpredictable. Their accuracy is ... WELL, THEY HAVE NO ACCURACY AT ALL. They fall whenever they want. Believe me, these can be used just to terorrise some village / town. In a regular war you can't use these at all. If you put
them behind the 3rd line chances are that you will hit your own units with them. If you put them at the 1st line - you are
condeming the soldiers who maintain them to undoubtful extermination.

Their range is some 30-40km and they are protected with no armor at all. These can be easily approached and destroyed by some light infantry. You can kill the driver even with some pistol as even the truck windows are not armored.

Rolf, you are spending too much time on Al-Manar, dude
-"we have failed pathetically. Quite pathetically."
-"That," said Ford quietly, "is because we don't care enough. I told you."
-"But unless we determine to take action," said the old man querulously, as
if struggling against something deeply insouciant in his nature, "then we
shall all be destroyed, we shall all die. Surely we care about that?"
-"Not enough to want to get killed over it,"

from Life , the universe and everything.... I hope u get the point :P

I was somehow having a discussion about the moab.. mother of all bombs... the thing is huge.. it is like several tons (9.5 or something if memory serves me well )
and you can see it falling down the sky.. it is damn big... can't it be targeted easily and be blown in the air.
there are missiles that can hit other missles while flying at mach speed...can't they just hit the moab while falling ?
What?
We will win the revolution! With the help of God we will fire divinely guided missiles on the zionist pigs... until they board boats and go back to europe!

No seriously now, I know katioushas are as accurate as firework. Youre lucky if they dont land within your own borders or go over the ennemy country and land in the next country...

But theyre cheap and small, and if only they could fit them with a half-decent guidance system, they would be great... I mean even with all their weaknesses they had a big impact in the 2006 war.

My point was I think the future is mostly missiles. Its hard to stop a really fast missile... maybe with lazers but I dont know if that technology exists yet, and most important of all, is cost-effective...

(If you need to pay 1/2 billion dollars to stop missiles that cost less then 5000 dollars each, well its better then nothing but its not great!)
2 of my favorite weapons that i saw on that show were the javelin (a portable anti tank missile, you just lock your target, fire, and leave, no need to even wait for the missile to reach it's target, it will just go there alone and follow the target, and BOOM!!), and the archer (a swedish fully automated artillery, so damn huge, and so fast for artillery...)

i think the russians have developped a much stronger non-atomic bomb (father of all bombs?).
for nuclear, go check the tzar bomb, you would laugh at the hiroshima and nagasaki bombs compared to this one :D i think when testing it they actually had to reduce it's power by half to make sure the pilot dropping it doesn't fry....
the hiroshima bomb is the one they have to put a zoom on ?
:o *swallows hard*
Not dangerous for the pilot only, but for the Earth as a whole. It would cause some sort of an earthquake. When the bomb has
been blasted an earthquake wave has passed three times around the entire Earth :)

Unfortunately Russia are spending a lot of their resources on weapon development, but not on something constructive.
Who cares if you have 50,000 modern tanks, 20,000 jet fighters and stuff if your countrymen are living in insecurity, poverty
and stuff.

At the time this bomb has been tested most of the Russians were really happy and proud to obtain an immersion heater.

P.S. The tzar-bomba is a thermonuclear bomb. It emmits a lot of energy. The new generation thermonuclear plants that are
to be built in Japan and France now are of the same type. They will generate tenths of times more energy than the existing
nuclear pants.
so, let me see if i got this right
we have sources of energies that can in few seconds generate enough energy to last a long time.. but we still use the oil to pollute the earth and cause a zillion environmental problems and health issues and diseases.
those methods are only available to the military ! ?
and with all those weapons and missiles...why are there still conflicts with those "terrorist"
seeing what i see.. they shouldn't stand a chance !

i don't find those weapons cools
the cool weapons are for example those laser things that can blind the victim or give temporary electric shock
it gives an option other than killing the victim and can be used in hostage situations and such.
I also like snipers weapons... i think they can make a difference without having to kill a zillion soul and destroy earth and cause pollution and tons of problems

and i wonder... what if someone uses those electric or waves field in an area to stop the computer systems in those tanks and such.. aren't they all guided by computers ? frying those chips would make the whole weapons and tanks not useful .. no ?

what if someone hacks into those systems :S ... last time i checked... the aviation system got hacked, y not the military... specially if armies are hacking each other !

anything on marine weapons.. i don't think i caught something on that
Did anyone see big dog on youtube, the dog-robot?
Check it out.
