Hi
Long time no post
Is there having Speed issues with Cyberia ADSL connection? it used to be great until a few days ago.. I am on the 512K plan, during the day there is no problem and my download speed is around 50 KB/S which is fine..
After 8 pm, the double speed offer kicks in, and the speed doubles to around 100 KB/s.. However, after 9 pm , the speed cannot exceed 30 KB/s (256 Kbps) and it stays that's why until 7 am! The weird thing is that if you monitor it the connection, you notice that the speed is stable at 30 KB/s and not fluctuating suggesting that Cyberia is limiting the bandwidth on purpose (putting a cap limit at 256 Kbps) and that it is not a network congestion!.
Cyberia support as usual didn't offer any help and says that it is normal!! but since the problem only appeared a few days ago and i didn't have this problem since i subscribed to adsl over 1 year ago i am suspecting that they are limiting the speed for heavy users
Anybody has a feedback
edit: this month i didn't exceed my quota or downloaded heavily so i don't know if it is the fair usage policy thing? does anybody know if they implement this fair usage policy depending on last month downloads? meaning you exceeded your "unlimited quota' last month so this month you get half the speed?!
Thanks
Hybrid
Its been a week or a bit more now, that my connection automatically disconnect at 11pm, then i reconnect again, and the download speed is crap, around 20KB/s or less, plus browsing is slow aswell, till 6 or 7am,
I usually don't download huge files during the day, but the connection is very fast compared to after 11pm,
I'm on 512K plan too, and i always exceed my monthly quota and end up with no internet for the last few days of the month, but i never had such a problem, this is the first time in 8 months or so...
If they decided to start capping the connection all of a sudden, then at least they should inform their users?
& PS: the supports are retarded... literally

support - Hi cyberia support may i help you?
user - Hi my connection is very slow. Do you have a probem? its been going on for days...
s - No, no problem, everything works fine
u - But im supposed to get 100KB download and i only get 30KB, why?
s - I dont know... have you tried restarting your pc?
u - .... yes
s - Do you have an antivirus software?
u - yes, and it is up to date
s - Then I really dont know what the problem is. Everything is fine here.
u - ... but ...
s - yes?
u - nothing... ill try again tomorrow...
s - okay, thank you for calling!
scenario 2
s - support, can i help you?
u - why is my connection slow? ive been getting 30 KB instead of 100 KB for a week now...
s - have you tried restarting your pc?
u - yes, my pc is ok, there is something wrong with your connection
s - can i have your username?
u - xxxxxxxxx
s - yes, you have had already 3 out of 4 gigabytes of download. but everything seems fine. Maybe a momentary slowdown.
u - do you know who i am?
s - what?
u - do you know who I am? ive been working with you for 3 years, and i probably pay you enough for 2 or 3 employee salaries. Frankly, i am quite disappointed with your service. It is unacceptable.
s - I am sorry for that, are you having other problems?
u - yes, and I wont accept it anymore. I need this connection and if you dont fix it I will have to take my business somewhere else, along with 2 dedicated lines.
s - ... let me see what i can do
...
s - okay sir, I have reset your quota and put you on another route which should be faster, just for you. Please reset your modem, and you should be getting full speed. Is there anything else you want?
u - okay. no.
s - sorry for that sir, if you have any problem please call.

Yeah, true.. the connection always disconnect at 11 pm and it reconnects with a new ip and crap speed.. Today for example it is capped at 128 Kbps and i am only at 30% of my quota! the problem started like 8 days ago or so but today it was the worst! it is like they downgrade you to the 128k plan at night  what next a 56k dial up plan?
and yes the support claims they know nothing even their engineers ignore you and claims nothing is wrong.. Like u said Paladin, at least they should inform the users and stop advertising the double the speed at night thing!
Also i swear that i could use cyberia webmail before using my adsl username and password (used to receive quota warnings) but now i cannot. Support claims that ADSL users did never get a cyberia webmail account?!
@roft
 i like scenario 2

lol, i'm capped at 128kbps tonight too,
maybe its time to change to another isp :P

maybe!!! but they surely forgot to fix the cables in their brains...

I do not see any reason as to why one would go with any provider other than Ogero unless you are running a business. The history of the alternative companies support speaks for itself.
They are terrible.

Ogero has no unlimited night traffic..

LOL today i am at 128 kbps from 7 pm (i have no idea if it is like that all day since i only turn on my pc after work) but i don't get it since @ 7pm it is not considered unlimited night traffic and i still have more than 50% of my 4GB quota.Oh well, i would change ISP only if iam sure that other ISPS are not doing the same thing!

I just moved from Ogero to Cyberia Wigo today, but the internet connection is really crappy. I mean it takes google about 7 seconds to open. Ogero, too, has been crappy in the past few days. There must be some problem with all ISP's these days.
Btw, could anyone please tell me how I can check my quota? I have no idea how to do it yet lol

ISPs are the victims of their own marketing.
They compete on speed and advertize their services as mind blowing speed internet, and when the user gets it, they are deceived.
If they marketed internet as a basic service instead, then they would not have this problem with complaining users. Nobody calls the phone company and complains that the voice on the phone in not super high quality or stereo sound ;)
nuclearcat
ISP's are FORCED to compete. At the beginning prices was fair, ISP's was able to provide 128Kbps for $33.
One idiot advertise 256Kbps by $33, while backbone prices remain the same and there is no significant changes on backbone, license and etc prices. Others forced to advertise something "better" to not loose customers.
Most customers just like "cheap" lower price proposals. ISP's will cut quality (internet, support, etc) to provide "nice offer". Thats a business, what people want, business give.
If people want - they will drive even used, but BMW and Mercedes (what you see in Lebanon), or if they want they drive cheap Russian or Chinese crap cars (dying in it in smallest accidents) in Russia. If people want they choose reliable hardware, and if they seek for cheap crap - they run chinese noname pc. Most people want "cheaper", and don't want to do "smart choice". Thats sad.

Ogero support is close to not existing. What i meant was, the only reason i see someone going to anything aside from ogero is for the Support.

http://www.cyberia.net.lb/ and click "my account" then "account management" and enter ur username and password...
