Hello guys,

I just need a little app that does this :

sometimes i am working dev. with windows , sometimes working with graphic software, sometime just browsing and music, sometimes web dev ......
with each task, there is somehow a set of applications related to it that i use the most
for example illustrator, photoshop, gimp, 3dMax and the family when working with graphics
mssql, VS , crystal reports and such when Dev.

i think it would be awesome to have a little tool that just changes the start menu contents into the "profile" of the tasks u doing.

i do set the content to the max.. but they don't all fit and it is a hassle to start --> all programs --> browse thru a big list .. and select

or when someone else is using the computer.. i don't want the minesweeper to be showing higher than VS for example.. i want to reset it to my fav startup :P

so anyone knows something that does this ?
Good idea, like you can have different start menu configurations, and switch between them depending on what youre doing?
Should be pretty easy to implement, to do an app that will change the organisation insite the start menu folder...
hi rolf.. know where i should change

C:\Documents and Settings\xxUser\Start Menu
but this has the item in the start --> all programs, not the ones immediatly showing

i took a quick look in the registery, didn't know where to find it

so any idea where the list is saved so i can modify it ?
appreciate the help :D

i think i am almost the only person left on earth who doesn't use a launcher or a dock :P i always use it for a while then forget about it, and i don't know if some can have multiple "profiles"
if you want it just for few applications, you can do it with the quicklaunch thing that comes next to the start menu. it's faster to access than the start menu, and the shortcuts are in: C:\Documents and Settings<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
thanks
it is better this way to have start menu and a profiled quick launch

i am also using the run menu to launch stuff, but i have to create shortcut + put it in system root + remember its name :P , for the typically lazy me, that is a lot of work :P

:D me likes launchy, i like that even it doesn't have a taskbar icon or anything, khay :D

thanks battikh :D great piece of software..
Launchy - http://www.launchy.net/

Launchy is a free windows and linux utility designed to help you forget about your start menu, the icons on your desktop, and even your file manager.

Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes!

Hey, if you like to write a little code, i suggest autohotkey .
It is freeware and allows you to create hot keys that can be way more powerful than usual one ( like window + d...or window + r etc.. ) .
for launching applications... launchy is a really great tool .. somehow i feel it gets smart and knows what i am trying to launch with time... if my memory serves , it is done in QT By the - the latest version

thanks piotr, I will be taking a look at auto hot key
how do u use it ? what have u done so far with it ?
as for actions needed to be performed on windows.. i mainly use the window + D for desktop and alt+tab for switching... can't think of something else i need
