I didn't find any difference in speed with cached video. Still have to wait, almost the same loading time.

Ya 3ammeh?!!! You guys actually watch Youtube videos? How? I'm on 512kbps with VISP and youtube videos don't load at all, if not rarely...Something's fishy I tell you.
vengeance666
As far as i heared a couple of times..some ISPs like "block" such things or use traffic shaping as for torrents to minimize bandwidth consumption etc , i don't know if it's the case here but i got a friend with 128k from ogero and he can stream faster than a 256k VISP internet .. as for all i hate youtube so nothing to rant about for me :P
MegaCool
Yup streaming videos is blocked on VISP, I cant actually even watch a 10 seconds 240p video with my 256K account unless it''s 5:00am.
@vengeance666 trust me, you hate youtube only because it doesn't work on our crappy connections.

@nuclearcat:
Since my last post, 20 days ago, we have stopped everything that is not necessary; dropbox, updates, smartphones...So there is only browsers now.
The connection got somewhat better. But it still goes down very often, and sometimes (though less often) is still not fast enough to check gmail in ajax mode (or gmail at all), even if there is only one pc connected, using all the bandwidth.
I am tired and weary of your customer service and you tossing away false reasons.
I would have happily heard: "yes, our service is not great, we are doing our best, please hang with us". I truly would have.
I can't really express how disappointed I am by your service. I was so pissed that I began writing a series of blog posts to discourage people from registering with you, but then again, it's not the place of our blog to bash a company, so I stopped mid-way and won't post them. But I truly don't have a shred of respect for VISP anymore.
But this forum is, so here is my advice:
For the people reading this thread, if you are registered with VISP, good luck. If you aren't, by all means don't consider it. It's true they are a bit less expensive than others, but for a service that is not even 1/6th, so when you consider the price/quality ratio, it's actually much more expensive than others.
I am comparing the VISP supposedly "DEDICATED", "UNLIMITED" connection with my home terranet connection, and my home terranet connection, for wich I pay 1/3rd of what I pay VISP, is at least 2 times faster (that's really really an understatement. I can watch youtube videos live at home. I can't even think of opening youtube with VISP). Limited though, it's true, but even if I take that into account and consider that I cross over my terranet limit and pay for the extra bandwidth, then for the same price, I still have a connection that is twice as fast, and with very little downtimes.
Bottom line: STAY AWAY

what i exactly mean that some things are put on "lower priority" than others , w from my experience with VISP browsing and downloads ( downloading is actually stable for 30 32kb/sec for me ) comes first ( also burst is cool ) ..but when it comes to online gaming and media streaming it's put on the lowest priority system i can think of , it's obvious with 500ms ingame at 4 am , never ever a green latency since 2 months ago.. come on everyone is asleep at 4am i might be the only person awake in the whole city ! and also at 4 am streaming is really really slow , wich was alot better at some point during spring ..
PS : it all started the day 1st of JUNE 2011 and since then ... before that quality was degrading slowly but i was able to play WoW 24/7 with 200 300ms...raid at 9PM under 250ms , stream videos after 1am with an unbelievable speed and an ok speed during day time...when the sun came up on 1st of june ( and until now ) , the quality went down the drain , and i mean worst that i've seen during 6 years.. hope this elaborate everything , and hopefully give us the customers a clear and honest answer "why?" , it is obvious that VISP can provide such good latency and good streaming even at peak times , it did for 5 months and before the claimed "bandwidth upgrade" that suppose to get things better not worse...also to note something : last week 120 170ms as maximum on pingtest.net with 10ms jitter as maximum and a "B" quality as result...4 days and it's stable on 300ish ms and a "D" quality..why ? you were able to give us the "B" quality for several days no matter what time of the day it was...

Some spikes tonight. First time I get lag spikes in a week or two.
hussam
terrible latency ingame now for the second night in a row which doesn't make sense since traceroute shows good latency.
vengeance666
Dude nothing makes sense , i made a post right up there a big one ( heck it's an article not a post ) ... w like they say : el soukout 3alamat el rida ... really now , you "silenced" people with 2 weeks of good latency , beginning with B quality in pingtest , and then everything gets back to normal as usual...and the same circle goes on and on.. not the first time , i can't even imagine what kind of managment an ISP in the size of VISP have ... every 2 hours fi 3enna 3otol 3am menzabto , russia rebuilt it's power when the soviet union broke , japan was built back after she suffered around 5 earthquakes earlier this year , and an ISP in the size of VISP can't maintain a stable connection for 24 hours straight and that's the case for lots and lots of days now..i always respected others and tried to find good things about VISP just to convince myself that i won't have to switch to an other provider and start paying for extra bandwidth that i shouldn't pay for ... VISP has the potential to beat DSL because of no extra payment , cheaper packages and now a very good FUP system..that's what greed brings anyway ... worst ever connection i ever seen in my entire life , dial-up was way more stable i guess... VISP nowadays sucks big time and it is obvious even to a blind man that they are doing shit about it ... if a nuclear bomb blew up there , 7allon yzaboutwa , it's not nuclearcat fault nor md2k...it's their bosses fault , and i just wish that they read forums around the internet and see what people think about their service .. they will begin losing big time when new packages are announced... because i am 100% sure that nothing will change at VISP in terms of stability , outages and latency ... just more horsepower
and i am very very sorry for such a post ... but this is the truth and the truth can hurt sometimes..
nuclearcat
They don't read forums. Backbone are issue we are mentioning daily for our bosses.
Till now, in contrary what telecom minister said - noone got backbone.

at Sept i guess kids will go back to schools and load will increase. Without upgrade it will be next fallout for lebanese internet.

I just hope it doesn't get worse bit by bit every day. it was perfect three nights ago.
We never get explanations as to why things that work perfectly for two weeks suddenly stop. When something works perfectly for three weeks, it means the system could handle the load. what changed yesterday?

hussam - sometimes i am grabbing offers from satellite vendors to test new technologies. It means just free bandwidth.
Sometimes we are able to pump more bandwidth over satellite and more of it available on terresterial bandwidth (all wireless communications works not very well in Lebanon, due many factors).
Sometimes it is also equipment failures dropping speed, when parts of network running on redundant units.
Sometimes also unregulated wireless space have interference, because there is no coordination.
When finally ministry will give us access to DSL and proper backbone over fibre - things will change a lot.
