Oi' I'm thinking of subscribing to a 256K account with VISP. Main appeals to me are : * The gaming zone (supposedly with <100ms latencies for private...

I know Ogero is not doing anything to improve the situation. On the contrary, they are making things harder for other ISPs so that, in the end, everyone gets fed up and leaves their ISP to join Ogero.
When/if this happens (and I hope it doesn't) Ogero will then have monopoly over the Internet, more specifically DSL plans, in Lebanon and will be free to set whatever prices/quota they deem necessary.

I for one, have also tried ALL ISPs and I still suffer from the same DSL instability and frequent disconnections.
I had to get to highly placed individuals in several places, make hundreds of phone calls, and switch to Ogero to get them to admit that there is a huge problem on the main cable (marja3) linking my area to the Central Phone Office. A problem that had most likely existed for years !

Every single night around 7:00pm I lose my Internet connectivity. DSL and Internet leds simply go off till next morning when everything gets back to normal and my S/N Margin jumps from 7dB to 30dB.
Unfortunately, I have to be at work during the day so this is all useless.

Guess what Ogero's reply was: We don't have any cables for the time being so we cannot promise anything.

Would this response be acceptable in any other civilized country ? No, I would have sued my ISP / DSP for such a reply. But who do you turn to here when corruption lingers in every corner of Lebanon.

I do not hold ISPs accountable for the bandwidth shortage but what I do blame them for is the fact that they still accept new subscribers when they know their links are full (more like running on 500% of acceptable capacity) which in turns leads to a huge instability and service degradation especially during peak time when people need to use their internet connection the most.

Why do they do that ? They probably say "Well, if I don't take this new customer he/she will go to another ISP... so I might as well sign him up and to hell with quality of service".

Sure, I can understand this is a shared connection. But a shared connection cannot mean 10x times higher latencies (from 150ms during the day to 1500ms+ at night with several request timed out replies), a shared connection cannot mean getting disconnected every 15-30 mins in the middle of a download or an online gaming session or even an MSN conversation.

ISPs have to understand that "shared" is not the same thing as "degraded and unusable".

The day ISPs have the decency to say "we are not taking any new customers for the time being because we are in over our heads" then perhaps the situation could stabilize until a way out can be found by increasing total bandwidth on an international level.

Let's face it, we don't have real services in Lebanon. Plus, if you want to blame someone about it, you can't find anyone to blame because everyone is working towards compromising the notion of 'service user'.

There is no cooperation between ISP's, as i wrote before. One stops, another take his customers.
Plus, sadly, majority customers don't respect quality over price. They prefer lower price and as result worse quality.

I have a 2 Mbps connection ..but I shouldve tried it without my proxy and without any ICMP limitations

ping 7ms in speedtest (it is done over http) - means they are doing incorrect caching

This is the lowest ping i have ever seen on pingtest. connection is stable and it is 11:30 pm !

I agree with Dark_angel's point of view sometimes.

I have a 1mb connexion from VISP and 99% of the time Youtube and many other streaming websites are damn slow...(!) On top of that, FUP is totally...unfair: I just got my quota back to 0% (as we beging the month). Happy to see that, I do some updates and downloads...only 3 days and I'm mostly going to have the Low priority...

And what serious ISP in this world gives you free access to an illegal download database? (http://v-enjoy.visp.net.lb and http://v-enjoy.visp.net.lb/enjoy)...seriously?

The reason behind this unstable connection is the high loss of packets. Sometimes pages loads partially so you need to refresh the page many times to load all of it.

Right now, I can't connect to many servers including streaming on YouTube.

I am really into suing nuclearact over this, currently searching for legal ways to do it.

On what basis are you suing him, he is an individual employee not the company : VISP.

took me more than 10 minutes to go from lebgeeks home page to this thread , ping to google with more than 70% packet loss and ping is 3880ms , ping to bbc.net.uk is 200ms but with alot of packet loss,it's been deteriorating since yesterday night until it reached this point!! good internet is always something too good to last , why does such problems have to occur every 2 days ? that's too much technical problems an ISP have , really too much..

vengeance666 - about ur connection, it is all about interference on links over mountains, and lack of backbone links inside lebanon.
Anyway new gear to change that ordered, but there is many things in details, like customs, permissions and etc. I hope max in 2 month they will be operational, but i dont believe in any promisses this days, that i hear.
Plus you are over reseller. And reseller deal is difficult part. They take from customer more than 50% that we take, and in fact we are forced to invest to licenses, backbones, servers. They refuse to share expenses with us. As result customers suffer, and there is nothing we can do.

Regarding Ahmad_k - your account is broadband, and monday i am going to work with other teams to find out what is happening.

Mention a lot of times. You know prices of Ogero, right? And you know the reasons, why ISP's make or high prices for traffic, or FUP.
Sorry to be rude, but why all this whining, while you all know the reasons of that? Do you really think ISP's will become charitable foundations?

The FUP is a way to introduce tariffs, where user wont pay extra charges, in case he don't look strictly to amount of traffic he is consuming.
If you prefer to pay for your updates extra at the end of month - no prob, i can implement that.

Actually it is file sharing place. People upload stuff(who asked for user/pass), people download stuff. If copyright holder contact - we remove illegal things he mention. (Same way as rapidshare does)
With all that tricky laws i prefer to depend on lawyer decision, because sometimes it is legal to put trial setup, and sometimes they pack keygen in legally looking package, that u must look really deep. Sometimes we have removal request that ask to remove innocent package, just because competitor or that software is not happy about it.
And major issue - noone has time and resources to check all things in time. If you see something wrong - let us know at e-mail or phone, we'll remove it.
If to talk about legality, can somebody here can say "i never download illegal stuff". Noone. So how you are judging someone, while you should watch your own swamp :-)

Regarding v-enjoy. After reviewing content inside, i remove all users and their content and will keep only some free content that i, and few other people i trust will upload.
