  • HDD acting weird in windows vista

hi everyone

I have this problem in my laptop, i have windows vista and whenever i install a game for example Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars which takes 6GB from the hard drive, my hard drive would show 10 GB removed from it or when i install a program that is 15 MB it takes 2 GB from my hard drive.... if anyone can help me i would much appreciate it thanks.
Lol weird
ba3dak b awal l tari2
prepare urself for more
y don't u try Ms support :p
(i think u have the legal copy that comes with ur laptop )
i am sure they have GREAT support :p like their great products :p
haha...yeah i had the genuine vista i didnt like it much so i formatted it and installed windows xp, i couldnt find the drivers from the HP website for Xp they only had the ones for Vista.. much of the games didnt work on xp so i put on a fake vista ... u know and its acting weird i dont know why?!
do you have a recovery disc or something ? to restore the geniune one ?
when i first bought the laptop, it had Drive C and D, on D was the recovery files and when i wanted to make a recovery disk using the Hp recovery CD maker they told me that u only can do 1 copy of recovery and i never made 1...so i formated with out doing any backup !
So u need vista for the gamin ?
What are the specs of the laptop ?
They must b impressive in order to run heavy games and vista
since u formated twice i donno if u can get ur files using some tools
try contactin the ppl yalé shtaret minon l laptop
maybe they will help
if they don't
really mess the laptop and send it for repair under warranty or somethin
another suggestion is to have xp as ur base system
and when u wana play
run vista from inside vmware
yes, games r only working on vista because there is no drivers working for the windows xp.. well i have Hp pavilion

2 GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 with Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology : Level 2 cache 4 MB
1GB DDR2 Ram
NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7400 : 256 MB of TurboCache™ video Memory including 128 MB dedicated video memory total of 377MB
160GB 5400 rpm

and i bought this laptop from Dubai i have 1 year warranty i dont know if there is HP here in lebanon, is there?

and what is vmware?
VMware is a company that supplies virtualization software for x86-compatible computers...
Basically, you can have windows vista inside windows xp using VMWare player (using a virtual machine). Note that speeds are very spec-dependent.
I didn't understand... from where do i get VMware and how to make it work?

Thanks.
www.vmware.com

you download vmware workstation (evaluation, you need to buy it), or vmware player (free, but you will have to use another software to create your virtual machine).

so basically, it's a software, you install it, and run it. with it you will be able to create a virtual pc. once you run it, you will have your virtual pc booting in a window inside windows/linux/mac (codename fusion). once you run your virtual pc, it just acts as a regular pc, you put a cd/dvd in your drive, boot the virtual pc, and install an operating system. you will have a fully functional pc inside a window in your current operating system. so if you have windows xp, you can have any other OS (dos, windows vista, linux, macos x86, ...) in a window.

consider looking at this video to have an idea of what it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh5H2KMX6Ek
Checkout QEMU, for a free alternative :)
Since we're talking about Vista and gaming, its so sad that gamers will eventually be forced to upgrade since DirectX 10 is Vista-only :\
If u show up at the meeting
i'll bring vmware 5.5 for u
and u will get to test it :)
is the hdd still actin weird or sa7 ?
thanks alot guys...

I just want to know if is it better to make windows vista as the base and windows xp on vmware or not ... and are my laptop specs enough to load them both and play games normally? and after i download vmware player from the website i can install the other windows or i need an another program to make it work? and yes mir my HDD is still weird, i installed windvd which takes 90 MB took 1 GB from my hard drive that is so driving me crazy and thats even when i formated it again ,maybe thats how vista works taking more space to make the programs compatible.. i dont know what to do.. i might go to the hp company here in beirut and ask them about it, if the problem stayed .. and where/when is meeting ? anyone here in AUB?

thanks again..
i would say try to return the laptop but i imagine you are not longer in dubai now are you ?

anyway, there is HP in lebanon...

i suggest you try and phone the numebrs on http://www.itgholding.com/sub.asp?id=10 this page, i do not know if they will redirect you to the HP company in leb but since they are official dealers of HP products i think they can help you
hello
...
......................... helloween ! .............................

it is logical that the winxp system (more stable relatively) will be ur base operating system and vista run inside vmware (i think that was mentioned in earlier post in this topic)

i think you should try the hp company first .. i think they will solve ur problem and save urself some time (and time = money) by giving your laptop to someone to fix it

just curious was the legal copy making you trouble also ?

another advice .. start playing minesweeper :P
khallas guys i solved the problem, after i noticed that the hard drive is actually decreasing without even installing anything .. i thought about system restore and i disabled it ,and noticed it took 10 GB xD from my hard drive .. and now everything is working just fine .. anyways thanks for ur help. and mir why do u i have to play minesweeper?
