samer i'm getting a new PC, i'm going to sell my old box for a good price. I already chose: HDD Seagate 120GB 7200RPM 8MB $85 RAM 1GB DDR2-533 $98 DVD Pioneer 16X DVDRW Dual Layer $75 Floppy Sony Floppy Drive 1.44 3.5" $9  I need your advice on choosing a: CPU: (AMD {is WinXP64 any good?} or Pentium 4) Motherboard GFX Card: not much of a gamer but I need a decent one. Case: a cool case (both meanings). Cooling Solution: for the CPU total budget: ~900$
darkstar My Recommendation: Pentium 4 :2.8 GHz E - LGA775 [$167.00] Motherboard: Asus P5WD2 Premium [$366.00] VGA:Inno3D Geforce PCX 6600GT 128MB w/TV [$199.00] Sum: $805 (including tax) that leaves u with 95$ to spend on your case and cooling system. Those prices were from pcandparts... Hope this helped --Not so satisfied with the CPU though , i'd rather go with one of those: 3.2 GHz F - LGA775 800MHz/2M $227.00 3.0 GHz F - LGA775 800MHz/2M $185.00
samer thx darkStar, but you did not consider my initial choice (total: $266). and i think that $199 is too much for a graphic card.
darkstar Oh i thought that 900 budget was for the remaining parts ..my mistake. I chose that vga cause it will really last u for sometime , if u dont want to spend that much then i would recommend taking a look at this url which does a good job in testing a good range of vgas: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2238&p=1

rolf check out the AMD 64 969 pins they are pretty overclockable ya3neh a 3000 can be pushed up to 3800 with good ram. So my advice is on AMD. But I dont know about the new intel CPUs with dual core and those with 2mb cache... they make the whole price/performance thing more complicated. Get good rams, it's important for overclocking. Get overclockers ram that will go faster than what you need, if you can.
mahdoum 1 thing thats important for me at least would be the TV in i actually don't have on yet but plan on getting one so I can rip stuff of the tv ;)
