Also, Rolf,
I will suggest you to try first with a small ISP/company (for a job).
The large ISPs do not hire people without a lot of experience. Even if you have a lot of knowledge, but without experience, they will hire you
as 24-hour support (or something similar) and there is almost no chance for you to grow up (unless some other engineer from the company leaves his job).
You know, it is the same like in the army - you can not grow suddenly from a soldier to a colonel. You have first to become a corporal, then a sergeant, lieutenant, captain ... ... :D
That's my advice for you, I can't say it is 100% correct, it is just an advice/opinion. 100 people - 100 different opinions.
With the other person, I do not want to waste my time in answering him.

calculate also the phone line between the ISP and the building.
Excuse me, but how will this "phone line" be installed?

He probably means the price of converting an existing phone line to digital.
I always thought it was a costless operation but I am no specialist.
teodorgeorgiev
No guys.
Indeed, the ADSL is installed over an usual copper wire pair, the same used for placing phone lines.
In most of the countries, the same existing phone line is used for the ADSL link. The local PTT installs a "splitter" which makes it possible to use the same like for phone conversation + the ADSL link.
In Lebanon (for good or bad, in my opinion - good), Ogero places a separate copper pair between the ISP and the customer over which the ADSL is running, a dedicated one. If someone really insist, I can explain why this is better (in my opinion), rather than installing a splitter.
I am a bit tired to write now :)
rolf
teodoro in all other countries of the world adsl is installed over your phone line with a splitter. They must have good reasons to do that, right?
teodorgeorgiev
Rolf,
no offense, but...
I said in "most", you are saying "in all over the world".
Are you really sure in your words?
I do not want to start a war, but when someone speaks, he must protect his words... I am tired of "empty words". I am mainly a tech, that is why :)
Yes, in most of the countries, it is really so. In some, though - not.
As you know, in most of the countries the car rule is on the left side.
In some, though (England, Cyprus, Malta, Japan, Australia - not sure), the car's rule is on the right side. I am sure, if you ask any of the sides, they will give you a good reason :)
Most of the countries use the existing phone line, because:
1. they can not afford to put a separate line, maybe the underground pipes are already full and it will become a mess to start digging the streets once again.
2. It requires less efforts to install the link on the same line, rather than on a separate line.
From other point of view:
Splitters sometimes can cause really a mess. If improperly installed, the connection can go down when you start a conversation over your phone line, or when you finish a conversation. Some splitters with bad quality can create noise which if unpleasant for the voice, can become an obstacle when sending a fax at a high rate (9600) through this line.
Also, Ogero have about 4 million of free lines under the buildings and streets. They want to sell them :)
Maybe that is the other reason.
rolf
ok, "most", whatever.

in france REAL 10 MB ADSL : btes7ab mega bi senye only about 25 euro aww 2a2all with TV... and telephone illimite . i think u know the offer ... 20 mb 6 MB go for the TV and the other for the internet but conenction opens 9972 MB (1247 KB/S > 1 mb /sec) ... waiting to see here ... LOL !!!
vegeta
I will call today the IDM distributor to have confirmation of the specs and prices.
The suspens is killing me !!
vegeta
BAD news everyone
ADSL is not coming out now but in ending December
The only good thing is that they will revise their offers :)
teodorgeorgiev
Vegeta, the bad news are not for everyone.
They are for "toz" like you, for which I will do my best to never appear in VISP customer's list.
The issue is... IDM and others just do not have the technical knowledge and experience to install the DSL (not only, but including). For us it took less than month with all the quality and stress tests to run the ADSL.
Now we have ordered yet another 240 ports, because we are out of capacity. And we will order maybe many many times by 240 :)
So where is the bad news? ADSL is spreading out 8)
And I will recommend you to keep staying with IDM.
Villagers (yes, YOU!) must sit in the village. The polite and gentle people - in the cities.

Of course, this is my personal opinion, not of the company that have employed me!

Sorry for this offensive post.
teodorgeorgiev
Where have you been when Vegeta started with the "bad words" ?
You do not have the right to judge my words (or any). Only people who behave independently and judge equally do have.
Or you are like the USA democracy - "terrorist are those who are not supported by us". Those who are authorized by us to kill are not to be counted as terrorists.
rolf
teodor I think you have broken forum rules by insulting vegeta. We dont care about your crappy "VISP" company which has not even a website. IDM is the biggest ISP in lebanon and I'll cut my balls if they "dont have the knowledge to install ADSL"
The only way your little company (if you really work there) can take a share of the ADSL market is by having a wasta with the gouvernement, and I can smell it from here.
Drop the attitude, please.
And do you work at Globalproof or VISP ?
teodorgeorgiev
Virtual ISP have a website -->
www.visp.net.lb.
Since long time ago... ...
Btw, you should better know which of the ISPs have started and are currently working with the help of the government.
Also, GlobalProof and VISP are probably the only local ISPs using exclusively the Linux OS with a ***SELF-MODIFIED kernel*** for better performance.
And you can cut your balls if you do not know what else to do with them.
About IDM, after two months I am coming back. If you want, we can meet... me, you, IDM best engineers and we can do a test in Linux, Cisco and TCP/IP networking in general.
Lets the facts speak.
Btw, looks like you have a problem with your nose. Visit a doctor!
naregkar
Your attitude was boastful that made vegeta act and respond like the way he did.
In your reply that followed vegeta's surprise to those high prices, you started with a heavy sarcasm.
Just wanted to make this clear.
Theodor, this forum is not a place where people "fight". We discuss a topic and that's it. This does not mean that everyone cannot share her/his opinion, instead everyone reads others' point of view and suggests but not tries to persuade...
mahdoum
this topic needs to be locked :S so no other discussions/arguments can arise
rolf

Like what, you recompiled the kernel?
Is that a fancy name for recompiled the kernel with minimum options and the modules as static?
No really what did you modify?
rolf
I called VISP
I doubt you will take from them:
512k = 300$ per month!!
2mb? 1000$
They live in another world haram...
Is that dedicated prices? What's the upload?
If it's dedicated or even not dedicated but with a good upload it's very good deal.
teodor, what is it?
and what's the installation cost, by the way?
