  • Advise on graphics card and monitor

Hello guys!

I'm looking to upgrade my PC with a new graphics card and a monitor, here are the current specs of my PC:
- Haswell 3.40 GHz - i7-4770 8M/LGA1150
- Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB Kit (2x8 GB) 2400MHz DDR3
- MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING (DDR3) (LGA1150)
- Crossfire Radeon R9 290
- SSD and 1TB HDD
- Corsair Professional Series 860-Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Platinum Power
- Benq G2412HD 24" Full HD TFT (7 years old monitor)

I'm a hardcore gamer that likes to max out everything while playing a game (yes i know my screen doesn't have 4K) but until recently I didn't think i needed it. I would like to know your suggestions of what i can get for a graphics card and a monitor (144HZ and/or 1440p and not wider than 24") My major concern is the fan noise from the graphics card while on high temps, because i had install cpu cooling on my Radeon GPUs (using NZXT brackets) to be able to remove the fan noise and reduce the temps. The noise was so bad i could hear it through my headphones.

Thanks for the suggestions
If you wanna go MAXIMUM PC MASTER RACE, id go for an SLI setup with NVidia 1080 Ti's, MSI particularly.

As for the monitor, I'd recommend the BenQ XL2420G 144Hz G-Sync Gaming Monitor.

hahaha i don't think my wallet can go that far

pcandparts doesn't have that item
Get a 1080Ti with a fat heatsink. Something like Asus Strix OC 1080Ti is great
get a GTX1080Ti, as for the 24" screens pcandparts only has 1080p 144hz TN panels, no GSYNC, I saw one 27" 1440p 144hz TN one in the stock
I really recommend a Gsync, if you've ever used one...you'll never go back. If you can't find/afford one, 144 hz will do fine.

Also, I believe Spotnet and/or Ground Zero in Hamra sells BenQ monitors, you may want to message them on Facebook.

Indeed they are. :(
well pcandparts told me they are going to get a new shipment in 7 days, guess i'll have to wait to see what they bring. I'll check with spotnet and ground zero about the benq prices just to have an idea.

Also i have a relative coming from Canada in the next month, i could get a graphic card from there, but prefer to get it locally.

pcandparts doesn't currently have this item, do you have an alternative that has a fat heatsink?
- Upgrade Your CPU (i5 8500k will be 6 cores or i7 7700k / Ryzen 1700x) , Board , and Rams to prevent any Bottle Necks and the highest FPS.

-Get a 1080ti for 1440p / 144hz / Gsync Monitor - Still 2160p 60hz is midway , yes the 1080ti can tip 60fps @2160p in not in the majority of recent AAA titles. 1440p will be a sweet spot. My Recommendation: MSI Gaming X 1080ti.

For the Monitor go with this (Currently being sold @Macrotronics) - 1440p , Gsync , 165hz , 24inch

Note:

As You Mentioned: " hardcore gamer that likes to max out everything while playing a game" to have the experience you attain for , your budget must be more relaxed and not restrained. Otherwise , the law of diminishing returns will apply.

600$ at macrotronics, you can probably get it for about 50$ less at pc and parts if you can find it. 24" 165hz g-sync
if you don't want g-sync than you can probably save ~150$ and be spoiled for choice. personally I think g-sync is great and worth it if you can afford it. However,if you are planning to get a high refresh rate monitor 144h+ you can probably do without if budget limits you, it will still be ok. but for 60hz, I think it is a must

Currently my budget allows me to get a card and a monitor, cannot afford to get new CPU, board and rams. Really like the monitor, thanks for the advise.

I suggest you wait for the shipment and check if they have it then. If you want to always set your settings so that you get 140hz+ You can skip gsync, but if you plan on playing some games at 60hz with very high graphics (single player, rpg, non competitive...) I suggest you go gsync
i'm going to wait see what pcandparts gets then decide, but i'm going to get a gsync monitor.
Do not go for a TN panel in 2017 as TN panel where favored for their response time of 1ms but had a lot of cons. First the colors are washed out even if you tweak it you will still feel the colors are artificial and the viewing angles are horrible. I would advise you to go for the Samsung C24FG70 24" which has a VA panel with 1 ms repsonse time and unmatched color accuracy with 144hz refresh rate with almost 170 degrees viewing angle. I find it the best choice to go for in 2017 and it is highly praised pcandparts has it and it is less expansive then the benq one which is i think about 2-3 years old now. The samsung monitor i think is amd freesync ready but not g sync but you shouldn t care about that believe my laptop has gsync and it is a headache in some game and i turn it off and use in game v sync instead the difference is debatable but i wouldn't pay 150-200 $ extra on gsync for it just not worth it i think.

Read this post https://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=17933, also if i'm getting an nvidia card having a gsync monitor is recommended and to have monitor resolution up to 1440p

As i mentioned Gsync results are debatable and in my opinion Vsync does a good job in reducing stutters and frame drops if i want to put it in numbers i would say Gsync is maybe 5-10 % better which is negligible. Don't go for a TN panel just because it has Gsync as you will see in the coming products line up TN will be like extinct in 2018. My opinion is wait for the next products launch from Asus,Acer.... I would agree that 1080p is not ideal for your GTX1080ti as you will not benefiting from the extra horsepower but i doubt u can run AAA titles at 1440p or even 4k above 70 or 80 fps with highest settings but still 1440p is the next step to go. Good luck with your purchase tough time to be making a decision right now i am personally waiting for the next ROG product launch
I agree its going to be a tough time, thanks a lot for your advise bobo619
