Gun laws in Lebanon?
Even if everyone "Should" be able to keep guns for protection at home, are you willing to accept the risk of random strangers around you having guns in their homes? Do you trust they will keep them at home?tt400 wroteJust to be clear, I don't advocate a policy whereby people are allowed to walk around KFC and Hamra street with pistols and AK47s. What I meant was that I believe people should be able to keep arms in their homes to be able to not only defend their homes against invaders, but also against the government itself.
"Should" and "Should not" are not always the deciding factors.
Of course I am willing to accept that others have guns in their homes as well. In terms of the question of trust or of safety, if a person wanted to kill me, with or without a gun, they could probably do it if they were determined enough. You can make the argument that legalizing arms might make it easier for a murderer to kill, but it doesn't mean that more people will want to kill. Just because your ability to kill is improved does not mean your intentions will change.
I believe that every man should always have the last, brutal, simple defense against any entity that wishes to do him harm: violence. The "government" is only a social contract, it is only made up of the actions of those people in power, it is not inherently a benevolent creature, and therefore there should always be a safeguard against it. I am not advocating that every time the government does something wrong, the people should go down to the streets with their guns. All I am saying is that no government in all of human history has been able to guarantee the absolute protection and security of its people and that it will not abuse its power. History is filled with coups, dictators, fascists, etc. You simply cannot trust governments.

in what scenerio would you aim your gun towards armed forces?
@tt400
I have two permits one from the Ministry of Defense and One from the Lebanese Parliament , In Lebanon, for civilian none security/army related personals getting a permit mainly depends on your strong connections , nepotism or 'clout' or 'who you know'.

In the scenario there is a coup, in the scenario the army is no longer responsive to law and order (which this country has a lot of experience with), etc...NuclearVision wrotein what scenerio would you aim your gun towards armed forces?
Usually, if you are carrying a knife, you should know how and when to use it. its kind of a last option thing: your / someone's life is in danger and running is not an option, the right person with the right skills and the right tools can be the difference between life and death.NuclearVision wroteThere isn't any.
I believe no one should have access to firearms.
@ die_kapitan, you said you carry a knife, what do you intend to use it for?
in my opinion, you don't need it, let me explain why, lets say you got involved in a fight, i am pretty sure you're won't use that thing.
The other case you might need it is when you get assaulted or robbed in the street(here you might think of using your knife), but again, the thief who assumingly had planned the robbery, unless moron, should have a superior gun or the appropriate tools, so your knife is useless, and most probably will mark you as a threat, then the thief or twisted-mind assaulter will have a reason to hurt you.
also, if i do get robbed at gun point, obviously I'm not just gonna whip out my knife.
its better to be safe than sorry, and one can never know when he might be put in a bad situation.

Also, I consider my knife more of a handy tool than a weapon.
