hello guys
Project : building a gaming desktop
Budget : 1400 $ max
needs everything ( including screen , mouse and keyboard )
Show me what you got !
well my friend is building one including mouse and keyboard and a screen , and his budget is maybe 1300 or 1400 $ so he dont want an ssd and he will buy a bronze psu , so with your budget you can aim for a skylake i7 with an after market water cooler ,a gtx 970 if u are gaming on fhd , and a fhd ips 22 or 23" inch similar to my friend build and you can get a gold psu with an ssd . i will ask him to send me his build detailed and i will post it here
@sayedti, he doesn't really need an i7 if it's only for gaming.
I lowered my budget to 1400$ ..please give me ur suggestions
I wont go into details but, in my opinion, for a good gaming PC you should have a GTX 970 or preferably 980 if the budget permits. Go for a 25" FHD display. 16GB DDR4-2133mhz. Any i7 will do

oh yes you are right , iwas taking in consideration my friend build then i remembered that my friend is aiming to stream games to twitch ... and according to his research he need i7 for that .

I prefer to go with an i7 as a more future cushion as more recent AAA released titles are benefiting from an i7 (Haswell/ Slylake) and the trend will increase in 2016/2017.
MSI Z170A SLI PLUS (DDR4) USB 3.1
how about pairing this mobo with an i5 skylake , it supports sli and have a decent chipse which is suprising for its low end price (151with no vat from pcandparts )
Please research the impact of different CPUs for gaming. You won't benefit much from going from an i5 to an i7 unless the games you play are CPU intensive (RTS games for example), even then the difference in performance 5-9fps would not justify that difference in price you'd have to pay. Do research on your own for different CPUs performance in games.

My suggestions for buying a very capable gaming PC is the following:
Given it's a gaming PC, the only place you shouldn't do any budget cuts is on the GPU. The GTX 970 witch I personally own has amazing value for money even for the price I paid for it exactly one year ago(i paid 460$ with tax).

Buy the lowest range motherboard that supports your CPU and RAM chipset from a reliable brand(Asus is my go-to brand for mobos). The only things that would justify getting a more expensive board is if you need the extra features that the board brings to the table(ie onboard DAC, extra PCI-E ports if you want to SLI in the future, more ram slots, more sata ports, more IO ports on the back...etc

I multitask a lot and usually have visual studio open with my games and shit loads of chrome tabs, so I personally picked 16GB ram which i still never really mask out. Pick the amount of ram based on how much you forsee you're gonna use. You can always invest in only one 8GB ram stick and while using the PC if you see that you are running out of memory fast invest in another stick.

The case isn't very important, you just need to make sure that it fits all your components especially the motherboard and the GPU. Your choice of case can be influenced by aesthetics, amount of hard disks you want to fit in

Cooling isn't really a concern anymore. The GTX970 runs silently even at load unless you get a unit with coil noise but it's barely noticeable. The Intel cooler is crap though, I would invest in a Coolermaster Hyper 212X CPU cooler.

As for the screen get the LG 24MPQ Full HD IPS display.

i see we shifted from a DDR3 to a DDR4 machine right ?
there is a 100$ difference between the Asus STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 and the Radeon R9 .. is it worth it ?
Also what is the difference between the 6500 and the 4790 ? gaming wise ..the latter has more threads and cache but uses more power.

Yes, while there are some B150, H170 and Z170 motherboards that use DDR3, DDR4 offers better performance and uses less power.

Yes, the 390X performs about 15% better that the 970, has better DX12 support and has 8GB of VRAM compared to the 970's 3.5GB.

The 6500 is better in gaming scenarios while the 4790 is better for video editing and rendering.

i see but the 390x is noisier , hotter and more expensive .. do you think it is worth the 110$ difference ?!

why going with h170 chipset while he can pay 20$ more to get a z170 with sli support

i would not use sli support any time soon and if i can lower the cost even more i would do it
